Hello,

I am actually having the same issue as the guy you helped. Would you be able to help me with this as well? :)

Windows 8.1 update KB3000850 Error

This is the situation. I initially installed this update with no problem. However, when I had to run a system restore it appeared that I had to install it again. So when I tried installing it from that point, it kept giving me an error stating that it failed. I have tried multiple of times with no success. I saw a solved thread in this forum: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/12321-windows-update-kb3000850-error.html I am having the same problem as that person did. Can someone help me with this? :)

Re: Windows 8.1 update KB3000850 Error

I attached the SFC scan to this post as well.

Windows 8.1 update KB3000850 Error

Hello,

I am having trouble updating my computer with Windows update KB3000850. It always tells me the installation has failed. I ran the SFCFix program and got the results below. Also, see dropbox link below for log files for CBS. Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

This issue is normally one of two things, to help narrow down if this is a file corruption or a registry corruption can you please run the following for me?

SFCFix script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Go to your desktop and right click on the background -> Select New -> Text Document -> Name this file SFCFixScript.txt.
  3. Open up SFCFixScript.txt and copy all of the following text inside the code box below and paste it into SFCFixScript.txt.
    Code:
    FileScan::
    MSDTC.LOG
  4. Click on File -> Save. Close out of SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  6. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  7. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  8. SFCFix will now process the script.
  9. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  10. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Thanks,
Alex

Please see code as requested. :)

Ah yes, so from here we can see the hash of the file:

Code:
FileScan::
[0: 1] C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-com-dtc-runtime_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_0a1162f033fa01f6\MSDTC.LOG

 Version number not available.
Trace not available.

The hash for the compacted version of this file is supposed to be ZOM2A1sI9i25LVFShSopEimnFtVKIQLW3+GD3agBpQI=

The reason why SFC could not decompress the file is because the compacted version is corrupt.
