[SOLVED] [Server2012 x64] Unable to install updates. Error 8007371B.

Hello

I have been trying to fix an issue I'm having with our Windows 2012 Server in that I can no longer install any Monthly Quality Rollup Updates. I have seen other people post similar issues to this forum and it seems the community here is extremely helpful so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me.

The last time I was successful in installing a Monthly Quality Rollup was back in March (KB4012217). Ever since they continue to fail with the generic error code 8007371B.

The Microsoft.NET Framework 4.7 updates install successfully but all Monthly Quality Rollups fail.

I have run SFC and DISM and both have 'repaired' the system but this hasn't sorted my problems.

If anyone could help me out I'd be eternally grateful.

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named softwaremaniac. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. Export registry as hive


  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Right click on the SideBySide file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  8. Upload it with your next reply.

Sorry about the delay!

Remove Update Manually
 1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:4012217

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

That seemed to uninstall just fine. I need to restart the server now. Will schedule one for tonight. I assume I should attempt to update again once I've done this?

Actually, hold that thought. I just tried to reinstall the update that you told me to uninstall and it has installed just fine. I need to schedule another restart for tonight and then try the next updates afterwards.

Please do not attempt any installs unless I specifically tell you to in order for us to operate in sync :) Thanks

Now, please repeat the steps in Post 11, then try installing the November update. If it fails, attach CBS.log

Followed the instructions as per Post 11 and was asked to restart server. Scheduled one for tonight. Tried November Update but that failed, but will try again on Tuesday when I'm back at work after the next restart.
