Windows Server 2022 - Windows Update
2022-10 Cumulative Update for Microsoft server operating system version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5018421)
Error when attempting to apply update via Windows Update:

Relevant? errors in cbs.log: 12:09pm - 12:13pm install time
Failed to pin deployment while resolving Update: Microsoft-Windows-ServerCore-WowRequired-WOW64-merged-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.20348.230.5ae63a0dc681ab1d7b413d230fe20557 from file: (null) [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING]

Failed to bulk stage deployment manifest and pin deployment for package:Microsoft-Windows-msmq-runtime-Opt-WOW64-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.20348.1 [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING]

sfc /scannow completes with no errors
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth completes with no issues.

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee, any instructions I give you must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay to any of my replies, so please be patient.

I am looking over your logs now, and will be back as soon as I've finished analysing them.

Whilst I'm doing that, can you please do the following ....

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service.
Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Sorry for the delay, had to set up a Virtual Machine and update it, to source the information I needed.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and also save it on your desktop.
Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
Drag the SFCFixScrip.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

Click Search button and type Command Prompt
From the results, right click on the Command Prompt icon, and select Run as administrator
A Command Window will open.
Copy paste the command below into it, then press Enter
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Once DISM has finished running ...
- Please attach your ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log ... to your next reply.
If the file is too large, upload it to a file sharing service, and post me the link.

Updates failed, same error as previous. "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80073701)"

Good news is that the stuff we fixed is no longer being flagged.

Bad news is, from the brief look I've had so far, there's a whole new bunch of things that need fixing.

Getting late here (11pm my time) so it will be tomorrow before I get to look things over properly.
