I am trying to install this Fileserver resource manager feature, but it gives me an error. So I went to check on the Windows updates, and that gave me errors as well. I'm assuming if we fix the update, maybe this should fix the feature as well.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.

DISM success. Update still giving errors Error 0x80070bc9 and still unable to install future roles.

Hi,

Please reboot the server and attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Mmm, no result? Is this server connected to an WSUS server?

Please open an elevated command prompt, run the following commands to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Code:
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
net start bits
Then try to update again and post the latest CBS logs to see if it still report issues with KB3199209.

This update for Windows Defender is the only one which failed?

Export the Windows Update log
  • Right-click on the Start button and click Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards
Code:
Get-WindowsUpdateLog
  • Wait for the message "WindowsUpdate.log written to C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.log".
  • Attach the logfile WindowsUpdate.log to your next reply.

So far, yes. My goal is to install the File Server Resource Manager tools from Add Roles and Features. If we can just get that to work, then I can just skip Windows Defender since Sentinel One is installed. I get errors on Feature Installation: The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed.

I will review the attached logs later! Could you please try to install "File Server Resource Manager" again with Process Monitor Running?

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try to install the feature just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the square (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free and provide the link.

Please attach also the latest CBS logs for the time stamps to filter the *.pml trace...

I'll get back to this next week since I will be out of the country for a few days and don't want to mess with it before I leave. thank you for helping.

Logfile.PML

I can't add a role without crashing, and the window keeps popping up. The server manager has stopped working. Then I attempted to update and received these errors.

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80080008)
