I have this clever adapter that I can connect to a laptop SATA hard drive and plug in to a USB port. (See attachment adapter.jpg.) I use this frequently with laptop harddrives to get data off them and I use a laptop hard drive as an external backup.
I connected a desktop hard drive to it but I can't read it. (See attachment connected.jpg.) I get a message "unable to open" and Windows 10 is detecting it as a USB drive. Is this because I need a separate power source that connects to the pins on the hard drive? (See attachment pins.jpg.)
