I just noticed an article on Runner's World about a virtual event which aims to raise money for prostate cancer.
The starting and finishing time is adjusted for your time zone when you enter the event. The target mileage is also adjusted per person depending on number of entrants, if around 2,000 people enter the event, then you'll only need to complete 12.45 miles (just under a half-marathon) over a couple of days. The entry fee is £5 with £4 going to charity, the other £1 is the processing fee for the website.

Run Around The World With Kev is being organised by multi-day ultramarathon series Ultra X and Surrey-based ultrarunner Kevin Webber, who was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer in 2014.
Entrants in the virtual race have from 10am GMT on December 30 until 12pm GMT on January 1 to complete the 24,901-mile distance. The extended time takes into account the first place on earth New Year’s Eve occurs (Samoa) and the last place it hits (Baker Islands in the Pacific).
