I have had to resurrect a few Windows Server 2008 R2 boxes and get them updated as far as possible with MS Updates. All but one are ok now and up-to-date with all available MS Updates. The one though seems to be having issues with KB4534310. I seem to have traced this possibly back to dwrite.dll missing from WINSXS:

For the life of me though I am unable to find just which MS Update addresses Windows Server 2008 R2 7601.23807 and thus may either be installed or reinstalled. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry about that. Here are the logs from System File Checker, SFCFix, and the CBS is located at this link here. Let me know if any other information is needed. Thanks again for the help!

SFC scan
  • Please open up a Command Prompt Window as a Administrator, instructions for Windows 7 or Windows 8 and 8.1.
  • Inside the command prompt window type or copy & Paste the following command:
    sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish. If the result is not "No integrity violations found" or equivalent please do the following:

Export the CBS folder
  1. Open the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created
If the zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,

Lets run SURT to see if the tool reports any problem.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Visit this webpage, download the System Update Readiness Tool that matches your Operating System and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,

Thanks for the log.

Please repeat the steps from post #8 and post the CBS.log if SFC find problems not fixed.

Thanks again for your help in this one and thanks for not closing out this thread. Long Holiday break and getting back into the swing of things. No issues reported in System File Checker.
