Repeated Windows update failures

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me with repeated failures regarding Windows updates on a Windows 7 32-bit PC. All seemed to be working okay with the odd random error until about 2 weeks ago when nearly all Windows update operations started failing. Looking back at the history, the same updates (KB3003743, KB2984972 and KB2937610) have failed daily since then.

Here is the output from SFCFix:

The CBS zip file isn't attached as it is 26MB and your uploader only allows zip files of up to 7.15MB!

Any advice?
Thanks
Darren

Just as a correction to the above, those three Windows updates have been failing for a lot longer than 2 weeks, it's just that some others had succeeded and I needed to scroll down further to see the history.

I am now going to try and upload the CBS folder as per the further instructions I just found.

Good, the SURT fix worked :) Let's see if SFC have anything to report.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Hi,

Thanks again for your help. I ran the instructions above, and the cbs.txt file is here (I zipped it up otherwise it would have taken several hours to upload):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/frjoc35sm9z7nua/cbs.zip?dl=0

Meanwhile, I ran another Windows update for some optional updates, and of the 10, 7 succeeded and 3 failed. So there is obviously still some problem in the system. I've just run SFCFix.exe again (after the generation of the cbs.log in your instructions above) and the output of this is now as follows:

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.

  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

SoftwareDistribution - Rename
Follow the instructions below to rename the folders in SoftwareDistribution.
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the commands below one at the time (press Enter to send it);
    • net stop wuauserv
    • ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
    • ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
    • net start wuauserv

Hi,

Thanks for your continued assistance.
I'm afraid that didn't make any difference. I followed the instructions above, went into Windows Update where all the history had disappeared (because of the renaming of the folders). I clicked on the "Check now" button, after a long while it showed me the four optional Windows updates that are outstanding. I ran one of them, and just like before, it failed, with the same error.

The SURT reports no errors still, and SFCFix reports this:

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
