I've read the update posting instructions and will try and follow them here.
I've been trying to fix this for months on my own with no avail, so my account of events might be a little bit off.
I get windows update errors whenever I try to let it update. 0x800703e6 is the only error code I can remember offhand. I believe that is consistent.
I have tried manually downloading the updates that windows is trying to automatically update from the update catalog, it always errors out. I've tried doing this in a clean boot.
Attempted sfc scannow and DISM as well, it always errored out.
I have browsed other people's threads in the past but I do not believe I have run anything intended for anyone else's machine.

sfc /scannow always fails with "windows resource protection could not start repair service."
DISM says "error: 998, invalid access to memory location. DISM log can be found at... etc".
exported CBS folder attached.
component scanner log attached as well.
Crossing my fingers and waiting patiently now, lol.
Let me know if anything else is needed. Thanks :3

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

I've attached the SFCFix log files and the CBS log post-DISM and post-mixed-success windows update.
After running the DISM command it did successfully do something. I didn't catch all the text. It was pretty quick. Computer restarted to download some files.
I went to windows update to check if all of the problems had been resolved. Got a 0x80070643 error on 2024-01 Windows Security Update KB5034441.
Some of the other ones that used to fail seem to have worked, though? I guess the CBS log will tell you that?
Please let me know if there's anything else you need from me.
Thank you for all the help so far!

Hi,

For now you can ignore this error, this is a known issue with KB5034441 and under investigation by Microsoft.

SymptomNext step
When you try to apply this update on a PC that has no recovery partition, the update is unsuccessful and you receive the error 0x80070643 ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE.You do not need this update if the PC does not have a recovery partition. In this case, the error can be safely ignored.

We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
