Windows Insider Preview Build 19042.508 Released to Insiders in the Release Preview Ring: Preparing the Windows 10 October 2020 Update Ready for Release | Windows Insider Blog.

Build 19042.508 (KB4571756) is expected to be the final build for 20H2, with continu8ing updates to improve the 20H2 update.

Please note that the October 2020 Update will be offered to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update at first. This means Insiders will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install 20H2. Once an Insider updates their PC to the October 2020 Update, they will continue to automatically receive new servicing updates through Windows Update (like the monthly update process).

See the blog post for additional information on getting the update or joining the Release Preview Ring.

Windows Insider Build 19042.572 (KB4579311) Released to Beta and Release Preview Rings: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19042.572 (20H2) | Windows Insider Blog.

The update includes today's security updates as well as the following fixes:
  • We fixed an issue with a possible elevation of privilege in win32k.
  • We fixed an issue with the Group Policy service that might recursively delete critical files in alphabetic order from %systemroot%\systm32. This issue occurs when a policy has been configured to delete cached profiles. These file deletions might cause stop error “0x5A (CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED)” boot failures.
  • We fixed an issue with creating null ports using the user interface.
  • Security updates to Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Kernel.

And I would encourage, strongly encourage, anyone NOT to make attempts to get any Feature Update, not just this one, until it is offered to you via Windows Update.

Microsoft has always rolled out Feature Updates to cohorts of computers deemed ready in waves. Windows Update has also become far more sophisticated about looking at the actual hardware profile of a given machine as part of deciding whether it is ready for a Feature Update. There have even been occasions when machines that were deemed ready, and been offered the update, have had that reverse itself in light of "late breaking issues."

It just makes sense to watch your Update & Security Settings, Windows Update Pane, for the announcement that the latest Feature Update is available for you and with a Download and install link when it is.

I always laugh at how MS treats algorithm training to determine which builds are ready for things like the Features changes. Just like training a dog, sometimes the algorithms disobey.
