Hi, i have the same issue on two PCs with Win7x32.
I am unable to install the monthly rollups for Spectre and Meltdown protection, since the first patches were issued at January.

When a monthly rollup is installed, on the first required reboot, the system reboots itself before the logon screen and enters a reboot loop until i start windows in safe mode. Then it reboots again automatically and logs me in to regular boot where i hide the monthly rollup update, until a new monthly rollup is available and the same issue occurs.

What is the procedure for locating the issue and installing the updates without problems on both PCs?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just noticed the sticky with the instruction for posting, i run the procedure for one of the two PCs with the issue.

sfc /scannow identified no issues

surt/dism installation completed succesfully

Do you see a BSOD or just a reboot?

Thank you. I need to gather some more info. Please do the following.

1. Point your mouse to the lower left corner of your screen and hover there until the Start Screen icon appears. Then move your mouse on to the Start Screen and right-click and choose Command Prompt (Admin).
2. A User Account Control dialog may come up asking for approval. If it does go ahead and allow.
3. A command prompt window will open. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt and hit enter.
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\hotfix.txt"

4. After the command runs there will be a file on your desktop named hotfix.txt.
5. Please zip/attach this file.

Thank you.

No there is no BSOD, just a sudden reboot when the login sound starts to play..

I attach the file hotfix.txt
View attachment hotfix.zip

Can you please navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump? If the folder is not empty, copy it to your Desktop, zip it up and attach it for me to review. Thank you.

The folder is empty (i regularly clean those 2 PCs with CCleaner and Win Disk Cleanup, i do not know if it is relevant..).

Please do the following:

  1. Click on the Start button and then on Control Panel.
  2. Click on the System and Security link.
  3. Click on the System link.
  4. In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.
  5. Locate the Startup and Recovery section near the bottom of the window and click on the Settings... button.
  6. In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the checkbox next to Automatically restart.
  7. Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window.
  8. Click OK in the System Properties window.
  9. You can now close the System window.
  10. Reboot if prompted to reboot.
  11. Please try installing the August update (not the preview!) and if you get a BSOD, please remember (or take a photo with your phome) of the Probably caused by: <filename>.sys part.
  12. Reboot manually.
  13. Post the results.

Thank you for the help and the immediate replies, i trully appreciate it!

The option automatically restart was not ticked, i unhided and installed the August Rollup again, rebooted and the same issue occured.. The PC restarted when half the logon sound was heard, before the password screen, without a blue screen.

Please do the following.

Step#1 - FRST Scan
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 32-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Please uninstall the following from your computer:

DAEMON Tools Lite
ESET Security
(using their tool)
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster 5.5
Sophos Virus Removal Tool

OK, i uninstalled Daemons Tools Lite, removed immunization and hosts file lock of Spybot and uninstalled it, removed protection of spywareblaster and uninstalled it, uninstalled Sophos and uninstalled ESET within Safe mode using the ESET Uninstall Tool.

Unfortunately, I have reason to believe that something has been illegally activated on this machine and as a result, I cannot provide further assistance.

Hi, yes you are right, i am aware of the issue, and i respect your opinion and decision. Thank you for your time and effort thought, i trully appreciate it.
