[SOLVED] PS/2 mouse and USB keyboard not working in UEFI BIOS anymore

Gigabyte Gaming 7 / Win 7 64bit. Ever since I have reinstalled Win 7 recently, on the same MoBo, I can't use my Logitech mouse in the PS/2 port anymore (it's a USB mouse, used it via PS/2 adapter earlier with no prob), must use it in a USB port now, there it works. And I can't start booting the PC anymore by pressing keys on my Logitech USB keyboard, which is how it is set in BIOS, which also worked earlier with no prob, in the very same USB port. Now the keyboard works normally in the same port in Windows but doesn't provide that function from BIOS. Do you guys have any idea what caused all that? I repeat, I'm using the same OS on the same MoBo as before when it all worked, and the same port for the USB keyboard (there is only one PS/2 port anyway). And I remember when I first installed the OS and the MoBo was new, it all worked from the box. It's been really mindblowing in a negative way :-)

Has to be a change in the bios settings or hardware, reinstalling Windows would not effect anything the bios does before Windows starts to load.

@softwaremaniac

Yes tried all I had from before, 3-4 different at least. But it it's not that anyway since Power on by keyobard is not working as well. It's something in BIOS but I don't know what. I used a setting called "optimized defaults" for every install but what more to change now I don't have a clue since the first time everything worked with "optimized defaults" from the beginning. Meanwhile I have upgraded BIOS due to the Meltodown but it's still the same with the optimized defaults from the lastest BIOS as well. I'm clueless.

Yep must be, and I'm clueless what. I think I've tried every possbile combination but obviouslly still not the one that works. Could be a missing driver as well but I don't know what else to install thought I have installed it all; BUT in Device Manager there are still two items that are hidden and when you set up the device manager to show hidden items it says HID keyboard and HID mouse are working properly, which indeed is the truth, BUT also it says next to it that the PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse are not working properly, which is true as well.

There are no drivers for the bios (Basic Input Output System)

About 44 500 "gaming 7" results on gigabyte.com.

From GA-Z170x-Gaming7 manual:
BIOS Features - PS2 Devices Support
- Disabled: All PS/2 devices are disabled before the OS boot process completes.
- Enabled (default): All PS/2 devices are functional in the operating system and during the POST.
This item is configurable only when Fast Boot is set to Enabled. This function is disabled when Fast Boot is set to Ultra Fast.
It should obviously be enabled.
And "fast boot" should not be set to "ultra fast".

Yes, have tried that before not working. Must be in conjunction with something else. Something with XHCI support on or off but I think I have tried every combination so far. Well I suppose I can try once again.

He's referring to the messages in the Device Manager I think.

Yes the device manager. Well both for keyboard and mouse the status messages are the same, regardless if Fast Boot is on or off. First tere is a line "HID compliant device" meaning it's working, and the second line is "PS/2 not recognized" or sth like that I will post a screenshot later.

Are the KB and mouse PS/2 or USB?

Does the board have PS/2 ports?

The KB and the mouse are both USB, the board has one PS/2 port. Before the reinstall, I was using the adapter to plug the mouse into that single PS/2 port and was using the "power on by keyboard" setting in bios for the KB which is plugged now into the same USB port as before. So everything is the same, same motherboard, same KB, same mouse, Win 7 64bit again, same BIOS revision (Gaming 7 F8), same USB>PS/2 adapter for the mouse, same USB port for the KB. Meanwhile now I have tried I think every BIOS combination for Fast Boot and XHCI settings but nothing PS/2 related just doesn't seem to work anymore. And there is always that notification in the device manager, HID compliant KB and HID compliant mouse working, PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard with error notification, like there is no driver present anytime anymore. Tried hard reboout, uninstalling devices from device manager, nothing helped.

Don't know if this is important, but I have used a newer build of Win 7 64bit this time around. I think it shouldn't really matter? But OK, just in case I will later try reinstall again using that older build.

If there is nothing plugged into the PS/2 on boot then that error for the PS/2 is normal. On PS/2 machines if you unplugged the kb you had to reboot to get it working again and for it to work it has to be discovered on boot.

Well, solved. Not sure exactly how I did it but have found the right combination in the end. Anyway, if someone else gets the same problem and wants to use that single PS/2 port on Gaming 7 motherboard in Win 7, you have to set it like this in BIOS:

1. Fast boot: ENABLED > also under Fast Boot set USB to ALL (not partial, to all) and PS/2 to ENABLED
2. XHCI - ENABLED
3. Legacy USB - DISABLED
