Good Morning Everybody,

I have been struggling for the past few weeks with an issue with my Win7Ult 64bit install, I noticed some weeks ago that Updates were failing to install, and then I created a backup image (a trial in itself) and commenced an upgrade repair of the OS, it failed and rolled back stating it had failed to update, so I ran CHKDSK across the disks, then SFC /scannow both from inside windows and from the command prompt under the install/repair disc.

I was running 2xVelociraptors in Raid0 but purchased an SSD to replace them, I used Samsungs own software to transfer the OS onto the new drive and swapped them over.

I have re-run the SFC and read the log, and seen that there are multiple entries for bootres.dll and iesysprep.dll listed as corrupted.

Seeming I kept running into the issue, and after trying another 'upgrade' repair install and having the installation stall at 18% of expanding files, I searched for some more assistance and ran across Sysnative, so hopefully I get get further down the track and repair my OS.

I've run SFCFix as advised and here is the report:
SFCFix version 2.3.0.0 by niemiro.

I have run SFCFix multiple times and the report is always the same.

I've also attempted to upload my CBS.zip, but it is 27mb so I have linked it here

Hi,

I can't download your logs for some reason, please can you upload them here? We have a process for uploading large log files:

SFCFix CBS Collection

  1. Download SFCFix.exe using the following link and save the tool to your Desktop: [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload]
  2. Download SFCFix.txt and save this to your Desktop as well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.../Scripts/~Generic/Collect/CBS/SFCFix.txt?dl=1
  3. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  4. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now begin to upload your CBS logfiles to our server.

Hi Kim,

SFC isn't showing anything interesting, so can you please run the SURT for me please? Download it from here: What is the System Update Readiness Tool? - Windows Help. Once SURT has completed installing, please zip up and attach the following log to your next post:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Regards,
Stephen

Hi Kim,

Unfortunately, this is an unrealistic amount of errors to fix:
Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 611
 Found [B]10173 [/B]errors
 Fixed 2 errors
CSI Missing Deployment Key Total count: 1227
CBS Watchlist Package Missing Total count: 6561
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 2347
CSI Missing Winning Component Key Total count: 38
Fixed: CSI Missing Winning Component Key. Total count: 2

Since you already stated a repair install failed multiple times, I unfortunately have to say that a clean install is the easiest and safest way to proceed from here. https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-install-windows-windows-7-windows-vista.html

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance, but 10,000 errors from the SURT alone is unrealistic to fix, and there is no guarantee that once I repair those errors more won't appear.

Kind regards,
Stephen

No worries, will try a bit longer, then give the fresh install a shot.

Thanks for your efforts.

May I ask what you did to achieve this?

-Stephen

I used SFC in Safe Mode (a number of times), as well as under Repair Mode (DVD Win7 Start) using sfc /scannow /offbootdir=f:\ /offwindir=f:\windows

Now when I run SFCFix.exe I get the following report which now says "SURT total detected corruption count: 3610"

Ok, that's fine. I was worried you'd done something else which can cause a lot more damage than good. But what you did was pretty sensible, and I am actually surprised at how many it managed to fix.

SFCFix has done a few repairs itself. Run SURT once more, then SFCFix, and attach both the logs.

Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce it further? Are there any tools that can be used? In the main if I search for something I just find repeated references to SFC, and it can only do so much.

Sorry Kim, but 3000+ errors is still unrealistic to fix. With regards to tools, we have quite a few backend tools here at Sysnative forums to make our lives easier, but your corruptions would need to repaired manually.

I'll have a look though and see if any of our tools can have a crack at this though:

Export registry as hive

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ComponentDetect\

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

I've zipped it up, thanks for this Stephen, I wasn't expecting any response from you guys, it was more a general question to everybody.

Thanks for that. I have some ideas - this may be fixable after all. I'm going to need to work out a way to automate this though!

Hi Kim,

You may be in luck. I've been speaking to another expert behind the scenes, and he's managed to fix a feature in our main tool here - SFCFix. This feature is designed to fix some of the errors you are receiving. He's currently away from home without the tools he needs to create the tool, but he's back on Monday so should be able to update the tool then.

If you can hold on until Monday, we may be able to get that error count down significantly, and can then work on getting it down completely!
