I have a number of laptops that all have the same image. It's an image that originally had Windows 7 on it, but we upgraded it to Windows 10. With some of these laptops, I'm getting a blue screen with "Please Wait" the circling dots which won't go away. I have run a chkdsk on the drive. Sometimes errors are found (on some laptops), sometimes no errors are found. Sometimes the chkdsk will fix the issue, other times, not. I've tried Startup Repair, but it comes back with unable to repair. Most of these laptops seem to be running fine, but a few of them have this annoying error. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Before we proceed, can you tell us what type of license you have for Windows 7?

Windows 7 Pro (OEM version), but we have an upgrade license with Microsoft that allows us to upgrade to the latest version of Windows on all our machines.

K, a few questions to figure out some possible workarounds.
  • how many users are on each machine?
  • are you using the latest build of windows 10 media to upgrade?
  • is each system hanging before or after the user selection screen?

There is only one main user on each machine, a generic user called student. However, there are two more users set up that can log in to these machines, if needed.

I'm not sure of the build number on the CD that we used to set up these machines. However, the build on them NOW is 10586.318

The system hangs before the user selection screen.

Thanks again for your help!

Just an update from this morning....The three laptops that were giving me trouble were off when I came in to work. When I turned them on, two of them booted correctly to Windows, while the third did the "Please wait...." deal. After doing Windows updates on one of the working ones, it is now back to "Please wait....." Tried to do updates on the other working one, but it says it's up to date. All have the same build.

On the systems behaving abnormally, have you tried re-imaging them with the Windows 7 image and then upgrading to Windows 10 again?

I have not. They appear to be working normally at this point, so I'll do some more testing and see if the Please Wait..... comes back. If so, thanks for the tip on restoring Windows7 and re-upgrading. I think this problem can be marked as solved. Thanks for your help on it.
