I had a recent fight with a virus and several malware packages and PUPs and I think I have some residual damage which I seem to have made worse by not thinking clearly, LOL. I thought I had everything under control but then started getting some occasional BSODs while ripping CDs using fre:ac. The dev of that program said that there isn't anything in his program that would cause that, so I suspect some sort of registry or driver corruption (or both). Bleepingcomputer.com sent me to this site to run the collection app... except it wouldn't run and the window closed so quickly I couldn't see what was in it.
Here's where the FML comes in, instead of thinking "hey, stop your Malwarebytes, etc. then try it" I decided to skip ahead to your driver verifier. It ran ok, but on reboot I would get a BSOD (never got to the desktop) on logging into my windows administrator account. My only recourse was to open into Safe Mode, which is where I am now. I did not see any report from the driver verifier. Tried rebooting and logging into another account, BSOD there too. Went back into safe mode and was able to run the collection app and the resulting zip file is enclosed.
Also added some files from one of the recent BSODs. Memory passes the built-in memtest.
A secondary issue is a problem with windows update. About 15 months ago (or longer?), before I upgraded to 4 Gigs of RAM, I shout off the windows update service and now, even though the service list in the task manager says it is running, I get an red icon & error on trying to use the update program. I even went reloaded it just in case it wasn't the latest version, but to no avail.
Your help with these issues would be greatly appreciated!

edit: just read more on the driver verifier... BSODs are part of that, I see. Perhaps that's the only problem? I should be so lucky, LOL.
