[SOLVED] No Sound from Laptop speakers, correct drivers installed.

Laptop: HP Pavilion G6 c6s52ea
OS: Windows 8.1 (Fresh installation)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled various drivers from the web, Microsoft and HP support centre. Despite this the internal speakers won't play any sound.

Everything appears to be okay and Windows shows the speakers should be making noise in the Playback Devices tab with the green bars going up/down on the correct device (have tried both).

External speaker work using the audio jack.

Currently have the latest drivers installed (detected, downloaded and installed automatically from the HP Support centre)

Does anyone have an idea on what I could try?

Hi, thank you for taking the time to help.

I have previously tried this driver but installed it again; unfortunately to no avail.

Would it be safe to assume a hardware fault at this point?
 
I opened the laptop to thankfully find the speaker cable disconnected! They are working now.
