Hi,

I am having issues with a client machine at work which is showing in the WSUS console as having failed 84 updates.

I have tried the Update Troubleshooting Tool which completes with error 0x80070005 Access Denied. I have also tried resetting the security using the SubinACL tool, but it fails on lots of entries.

The SFCFix.txt file says it can't find any corruptions:

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2016-01-05 13:50:52.193
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro has completed.

I have attached the CBS log, but please be advised that I have since deleted the contents of the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, which hasn't fixed the issue either and the SFCFix.txt remains the same.

I'm not sure what I should do next.

Many thanks

Thanks for the info.

On this client, please open up the Windows Update window and click on "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update". Please provide me a few KB numbers of updates that show in this list.

Hi,

Ok no problem. I left it running earlier, but as it was taking so long I had to let the user back on the machine. I have just taken another look and the result is attached, however I suspect these are the updates sent down by WSUS.

I can't check for updates again until it reboots (and fails the updates), which will take hours, so I will ask him to reboot as he goes home and I will try and get a window tomorrow

Many thanks

Hi,

I have managed to run the Windows Updates in control panel now and I have attached the list of required and optional updates for you.

I am trying to install them now just in case there are any updates in the list that fix the issue, but I won't know the results until tomorrow after the machine has restarted overnight again.

I look forward to hearing from you

Many thanks

Hi,

Things are looking better this morning! According to WSUS there are 19 failed updates and 168 updates needed. I have attached the WSUS report from this morning along with screenshots from the machine both before and after the machine rebooted. Let me know if you need anything else.

Many thanks

Please check for updates again from the client. Ensure you select (Check online for updates from Microsoft Update). Install/reboot/repeat until you are left with only the failing ones. Only focus on Critical or Important updates. Thanks.

Hi,

Good news the machine is now completely up-to-date! It would appear then that the reason that it wouldn't install critical and security updates from WSUS was because the machine needed other non-critical updates first.

Thanks for all your help.
