Monitor problem

When I turn on the PC the monitor light indicates green but the screen remains blank. I have to disconnect the power cord and reconnect it in order to get the windows screen. I also have to do this when the screen goes idle. I think it may have something to do with an error message that I keep getting "esrv.exe application error 0xc0000142". From what I have read it has to do with intel update driver utility which I don't have install. Instead I uninstalled Intel Driver and Support Assistant and I am still getting the same error.

Check because it is part of Vaio care, so it might be on your computer. (I've also seen it show up on other brands of computers).
The location of the problematic esrv.exe file is C:\\Program Files\\Intel Driver Update Utility\\SUR\\x64

I'm trying to find out more about this in your scheduled tasks: C:\WINDOWS\System32\Tasks\IntelSURQC
but so far it seems to be mentioned in threads at forums dealing with malware.
I"m not qualified to determine if this is a good or bad file.
 
The Intel Driver Update Utility folder was empty so I deleted it and the error message popped up again.
 
Sorry it didn't work. The only solution I've found is to remove the Intel Driver Update utility and since you don't have it, I'm out of ideas.

If you're brave, you could disable this task C:\WINDOWS\System32\Tasks\IntelSURQCIf it doesn't do anything about the error, then enable it again.
 
msconfig then click on the startup tab. If nothing there, look in Task Scheduler. (Control Panel, Admin Tools, Scheduled Tasks)

Could you run this command in command prompt and upload it as a zip file (right click > send to > compressed (zipped) folder)

Esrv_svc.exe is related to a task, but it looks like the program that the task was related to is gone. The error you get basically means that the task is trying to run, but that it cannot because the things it needs are missing. I do not think it is related to the display problem.

What is your hardware setup?
 
It seems I have solved the monitor problem. I switched the connection to the surge protector to another socket and the monitor turns on normally now. The Esrv_svc.exe is very annoying. If you want we can leave this topic as solved. Maybe I can open a new topic for the esrv_svc.exe.
 
It looks like I've confused 'tasks' with 'processes', in msinfo32 it's called 'running tasks' whereas they are actually running processes.
When do you get this error?
 
I get this error during start up. I spoke to soon about the display. I've been looking around and I think the problem may be that one or several capacitors may be failing.
 
Please do the following and see if it improves things
  • Task manager
    • Open task manager (press ctrl + shift + esc simultaneously, or right click on your taskbar and click Task Manager)
    • Go to Startup tab
    • Disable everything
  • Msconfig
    • Open msconfig (press Windows logo + r, enter 'msconfig' (without the quotes) and press enter)
    • Go to the tab services
    • Check 'hide microsoft services'
    • Uncheck all other services
    • Click apply and click ok
  • Reboot
 
My bad, that is for Windows 8+.

In Msconfig, in the general tab, uncheck 'Load startup items'.
 
Also uncheck the non-microsoft services.
 
I was able to uncheck non-microsoft services and "Load startup item". At startup I did see that error reappeared but I also noted that among the startup items that do appear is an application called DiskCryptor. On the lower right hand corner there appears windows update, speaker, Solve PC issues, internet connection and then DiskCryptor.
 
Please try the following:

1. Re-install the Intel Driver Update Utility.
2. It is very important that this time during the installation process, when you get asked the following question:



3. Click on "Decline"
4. Once the installation is complete, restart the computer.
5. Uninstall the Intel Driver Update Utility using the regular Uninstall option located in "Programs and Features".
6. Restart the computer
7. Delete the SUR folder
 
OK. So I was able to reinstall Intel Driver Update Utility. I never got the message for the Product Improvement Program. After the first restart I did get the error. After the second restart and another restart I stopped getting the error message. I have not yet shut down the computer yet because I want to see if the Intel error was causing the display issue. If not then it must be a capacitor problem. Should I reset msconfig back to normal?
