A few notes on the newly announced Microsoft Surface tablet:

  • VaperMG (TM) Case (pronounced vaper mag), 1.5 lbs. The cover is a multitouch keyboard.
  • When you snap the Surface into the keyboard cover, the screen color changes to match the keyboard color.
  • Available in many colors.
  • Can copy one gigabyte in 5 seconds.
  • Perimeter venting: groove around PC to allow airflow around entire PC
  • Front and rear facing cameras
  • Windows 8 Surface 64/128 models, prices comparable to Ultrabooks

The specs are helpful for comparison. I will bet this changes the time table for win 8 RTM

I admit that I have not been excited about Windows 8 or tablets until seeing the information on Microsoft Surface with the stand and the multi-touch keyboard built into the cover.

With Ultrabooks priced between ~$800 USD to ~$1200 USD, no doubt the Windows 8 IT Pro version of Windows Surface will be at the high end, although the announcement was that pricing will not be available until closer to release. In fact, the Windows 8 IT Pro version won't be available until about 3 months later.

I also like that the surface is made of Corning Gorilla® Glass 2.

Now I wish I could afford one. :frown6:

I was taking notes as I was watching the Twitter feed and C|Net live feed about the announcement yesterday evening and posted the notes in the "Hardware" forum. I decided to move the topic here because I'm really curious to get the impression of everyone else about this new tablet, figuring most everyone seems to "check in" this forum. ;)

So, tell me, if you were in the market for a tablet, would you be willing to wait for a Microsoft Surface?

Saw this today and got a bit of a chuckle:

My laptop is almost it's end ... Planning to upgrade maybe i'll wait for Surface :) I just wish it has a HDMI connector because that's a deal breaker for me
