I don't know if this is the correct place for this, as it addresses many errors.

I bought my laptop off of a friend a while back, I would say a year or so. It's an HP EliteBook 8560w running Windows 10, originally Windows 7.

When I first got it, I didn't have any issues at all. It, then, bluescreened on me one time. It progressivly got worse from there. There was a few months where it worked flawlessly, and then it became the worse it has ever been. I couldn't run it for more then a few minitues without it bluescreening or just freezing. I had previously tied it all up to my graphics card, so I just used the default windows display adapter.

I then started my months long effort to fix it. I took it apart and cleaned it, I did a full reset, I updated drivers and got different versions of my graphics drivers, many versions. I knew something was corrupted but I didn't have any virus's after long searching and my computer knew something was corrputed, but even a reinstall didn't fix it.

I posted on a thread (Here) and was told it was all up to phyiscal error. So I gave up on fixing it.

I am visiting someone for a few weeks and needed to get onto microsoft. I brought it along and it crashed over and over like usual. I became so tired with removing the battery to turn it off, that I left it out. It has, since then, not crashed as much. A strange find, but not a fix.

It is still crashes unexpectantly, even while seemingly doing nothing.

So I was using it like normal, just basically on the web because games can't run on such low graphics. And I realized that the search was not working. I would click, and it just wouldn't respond. So I researched and started following threads and somehow got rabbit holed into the issue that I cannot run DISM or CHKDSK. When the laptop has tried to auto fix itself it has failed, and I can't even manually do it. I'm running into the same issues as this person (Here) [P.S. Congrats softwaremanic on 20,000!]. I didn't download it because, you know, specific files for that person.

But I could really use some help.

Somethings to know, if they will help.

*My laptop gets very hot, enough to melt erasers if I'm gaming. I have 2 fans on the bottom and an extra on the vent to try to keep it cool.
*My battery never lasts long at all, and it is usually plugged in.
*It likes to get kernel locked (I think thats what it is called) when I take the battery out to restart it after a full freeze, power button doing nothing.
*It gives many bluescreens stop codes, but all are tied to system corruption as I've researched
*It's unmodded in any way
*I've tried EaseUS and Driver Easy

All BSODs are generally tied to corruption of some type. For example, an older 3rd party driver may attempt to access an area of memory (like a specific memory address) that when the driver was new was fine, but since then, other drivers (particularly Windows drivers) have staked claim to that memory address so when the old 3rd party driver attempts to access the memory address, the system blue-screens to prevent the kernel from being corrupted.

Attempted or actual kernel corruption (protected kernel memory) occurs rather frequently when unknown hardware failure is involved. For example, "paging" occurs very frequently - where data from the hard drive is loaded into RAM to be executed (all drivers for example must be loaded into RAM before execution takes place).

So, that is why you see "corruption" mentioned when you read about BSODs. The system BSODs to either prevent potential corruption or BSODs because corruption has already occurred.

How does the system run in SAFEMODE with Networking?

Press WIN + X keys together and select Command Prompt. Type [SIZE=4][B]msconfig.exe[/B][/SIZE] into the CMD Prompt Screen.

Select (check the box) for Safeboot and select Network below it. Click Apply; OK; then re-boot your system. It should now boot into Safemode w/Networking. Bring up your browser of choice and try to navigate the web. Note that the video driver will not load, so you'll be using on-board video.

From many of the items that you have complained about (or told us of issues) sounds like to me that a possible issue exists with the hard drive.

I want you to run HDD Diagnostics - SeaTools for DOS, LONG test. Windows does not load during the test, so you won't have any crashes or BSODs. It really bothers me that CHKDSK does not complete.

p.s. The info and scenario + the windowsforums.com thread surrounding your video card does lead me to believe that the added video card may be bad (hardware failure) and that you'll continue to have to use the on-board video.
 
The system is running as usual in safe mode. I am still surprized that I haven't had a crash since yesterday.

I attatched the sysnative file. I can't find any CD's I can burn onto in my house and I don't have transportation to get one right now. Is there another way to do the Seatools test for DOS or do I need to wait and go get a CD, which isn't that much of a hassle to do?

Try SeaTools for Windows - it is no where as near as comprehensive as DOS though and you may crash.

Are you running anything like CCleaner?

There are no dumps in the Sysnative zip file to process.

Please do not run CCleaner anymore - at least while working with us here. If you do, un-check the boxes for any items having anything to do with memory dumps.

Seatools is not showing my hard drive. Is it because the drive is an NTFS?
No - all drives for many years (20+) where Windows is laded onto are NTFS drives.

Are you running the Windows version or the DOS version of SeaTools?

If Windows, please get that blank CD ASAP!!

I took a look at the msinfo32.nfo file and see that you have a Crucial SSD drive, model/serial number CT500BX100SSD1

It is imperative to check for a firmware upgrade as the lack of one could give you many of the problems that you are complaining about now.

I hate to do this, but there potentially may be several links that you'll need to download the firmware upgrade, if there is one, the installation of it, several other items, so here is a Google link that starts off with obtaining the firmware upgrade directly from Crucial - CT500BX100SSD1 firmware upgrade - Google Search

HD Tune is also a very good test - Hard Drive (HDD) Diagnostics (Sea Tools for DOS) & SSD Test

I also need you to test your RAM by running memtedt86+, one stick at a time and alternate the slots, so that every stick gets tested in each slot.

I see that your RAM sticks are mi-matched re: manufacturer/model number anyway. All four (4) are four GB (4 GB) sticks; total = 16 GB RAM.

You can see that sticks 1 + 3 match, but #2 and #4 do not.

I assume that 1 + 3 came with the system? Where did sticks 2 and 4 come from?

I'd really like to get my hands on those deleted dump files. Are they by any chance sitting in the Recycle Bin?

If not, do you have an app to recover deleted files?

There is such an app that I know of - Altap Salamander - Download - Altap Salamander File Manager

Install - it is a 30 day trial. You will be able to uninstall after we're done here.

To execute Altap, RIGHT-click on the Desktop icon, select "Run as Administrator" - very important.


First, maneuver left screen to c: root directory. Left-click anywhere in the left window. Click on MakeDir at the bottom; type in undelete_07-22-19. You should now see that directory (folder) in the left screen. Double-click on it; it will open, but it is empty right now.

Click anywhere in the right window (ONE left click - this gives control to the right window now)

Click on icon highlighted by green - red circle #1; then select "Undelete"; the Undelete screen appears.

Select Windows drive - presumably c drive; click OK.

You'll see a status screen appear with a blue bar going left to right.

When it is complete, first make sure that the left screen is still be open to the empty undelete_07-22-19 directory.

Now, scroll through the right window files - you're looking for one named {All Deleted Files}

When you find it (it is actually a directory (a folder), LEFT-click on it one time, then press the SPACEBAR once. This will turn the directory name {All Deleted Files} RED.

Then, look for the word copy at the bottom of the screen. Click on it. You may get a message about copying/processing "undelete" on the same drive, etc... ignore them - click OK.

Then the copying of the undeleted files will begin. Just leave the system alone. Hopefully, you'll have enough disc drive space to do this maneuver.

It will take some time to run - perhaps an hour or two or 3. (Mine has been running for over an hour now and it says "40% Complete"

When it is complete, left-click one-time on a file/folder in the left window.

Hit CTRL + F keys (find) - there should be a field blue highlighted - Filename

Delete its contents and type in *.dmp - hit enter. This will likely take a while to run too.

In the right screen, you want to get to Documents. You'll have to maneuver there on your own. Click on the letter "C" in the path at the top -

Clicking on that should bring you to the root directory - it will then say C:

Click at the bottom on MakeDir and fill in dumps (in the RIGHT screen)

LEFT-click one time on any file or directory in the left window.

Bring back up the FIND screen. Look for files in \windows\minidump on the left side ("minidump" is extremely important)

LEFT-click on one, then click on FOCUS (located above the dump names)

The 2 screens should reappear. Now, left-click on the DMP file in the left screen ONE time only. Press the spacebar 1x only. The dump file should turn RED in color.

Click on COPY at the bottom. It should copy the dump file from the left window to the empty directory in the right window.

Go down the FIND screen file-by-file repeating the above procedure for any and all files found in the \minidump directory until you are finished.

When finished, zip up all of the files in the right screen and attach to your next post.

Please note that not all files will be retrievable as they may have been corrupted while thy were deleted.

Memtest Ran 3 succesful passes with 0 Errors, so my ram is most likely safe.

Here is the HD Tune test.

Salamander recovered my deleted files quickly, but there was no minidump files.

There are .dmp files, but I don't know if they are minidumps. I think one of them is. I will send them all anyway, hopefully no bad infromation, lol.

Also, I ran another SCF scan, and it said it fixed the corrupted files. My search is back up, but I think it froze up once. That could be my video card, as I was playing a spot of minecraft with it on

From what I see, the DISM log shows some corruption of the source.

From the jcgriff2/Sysnative Dump and File Collection app zipped attachment, I found 52 BSODs ("BlueScreen" was found 52 times in the following WERCON data from msinfo32, a Windows app).

CCleaner really killed us here by deleting those 52 dumps!!

Try to run SeaTools for DOS again and memtest86+ -- both are located in post #7 - Many Issues and Lots of Problems + Windows 10 BSODs

You obviously have some type of unknown hardware error occurring.

Make sure that the hard drive connectors are connected properly.

You have to run memtest86+ one stick at a time; and alternate the slots. So, during the test, only one RAM stick will be in the system at a time. You have to test each RAM stick in all 4 slots; 7 passes minimum.

I just noticed in another file from the jcgriff2/Sysnative Dump and File collection app that you have mis-matched RAM (mis-matched as far as the Manufacturer is concerned).

Each stick is 4 GB, so you have a total of 16 GB of RAM.

Per the screenshot, you have 4GB sticks of -
  1. Micron
  2. 859B
  3. Micron
  4. Elpida

I want you to REMOVE 3 of the sticks and boot the system with a single 4GB Micron stick and see what happens.

Be very careful when handling the RAM as any static electricity can ruin the RAM.

Let me know the result of running with the single 4 GB Micron stick.

Did the system come with those 4 RAM sticks or did you add some of them?

p.s. SeaTools with DOS is a MUST for diagnostic testing. Does the USB boot-up and does SeaTools run -- but it just does not show your HDD?

Removing the RAM may be hard, as this is a laptop. I will do some research and take it apart and run it.

I got another bluescreen today, but there is nothing in Minidump and I CCleaner is not opperating. I triple checked my settings, which are set to create a memory dump.
 
I did not know they made laptops with 4 slots for RAM. I sit on the software side of the fence and don't get into hardware issues very often.

To remove RAM, there should be a single screw or two on the bottom of the laptop and a door pops off. You should not have to take the system apart.

AFAIK, all laptops make RAM and HDD/SSD very easy to access.

Did that RAM come with the laptop when it was new?

p.s. How old is the system?
 
I don't know if the ram came with the laptop, or how Windows was put on. I have made no hardware changes since I got it, and don't have information on how it was put there.

I also don't know how old it is, but I would guess 2011 to 12 ish
