Lenovo S410 can't wake up after sleeping... only happened after updating to 8.1!

Hey guys!

First of all a big thank you for solving my desktop's window update problems... it's been working fine since december last year :lol:

But recently my laptop's been glitching up, self-explanatory as you see in the title.

Here's a slightly more detailed description:
My laptop's power button will normally start blinking everytime it goes to sleep. Before the update, when I wake it up, it will stop blinking, and the screen will light up.
But after the update, everytime I try to wake it up, although the power button stops blinking as if it has acknowledged that I've woken it up, the screen still remains black and refuses to light up. After a couple of seconds, the entire computer reboots. It seems to work fine otherwise.

I've tried doing a system restore back to the point right after the update to eliminate the chance that it's some new program/update that caused the problem. I've also ran the SFC but it detected no problems.

Other than it being unable to wake up after falling asleep, it's also been unable to detect the webcam. I have the latest drivers but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. The sleep issue is more pressing though.

Not sure if the two are related (sounds like hardware problem) but my laptop had none of these issues before the update from Windows 8 to 8.1.

Will be great if you have any ideas :)

Also, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Update ALL of the Windows 8.1 drivers for your system and see if that helps

Is there any particular reason why Secure Boot is turned off?

These devices have problems in Device Manager:

DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&1A590E2C&0&00 This device is disabled.

Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3004\ALASKA_DAY_2006 This device is disabled.

Lenovo EasyCamera USB\VID_13D3&PID_5171&MI_00\7&117A7F5E&1&0000 39

The first one is related to Daemon Tools or Alcohol % software. Please enable it, then follow the instructions in the next paragraph to remove it.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

The Atheros Bluetooth device is disabled. Bluetooth drivers have had issues w/8.1 - please enable the device, then update it's drivers to the latest 8.1 version. Feel free to disable it again (after updating it) if you'd like.

The Lenovo EasyCamera drivers cannot load. Please:
- download a fresh copy of the Lenovo EasyCamera software/drivers
- uninstall the current version of the Lenovo EasyCamera software/drivers
- install the freshly downloaded software/drivers
- monitor for further problems.

Many, many STOP 0x113 BSOD's in the WER section of MSINFO32. They all blame dxgkrnl.sys - a Windows driver related to your video. I would suggest updating your video drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version(s) The Intel drivers are most likely to be involved in this, but it's possible that the AMD drivers are involved also - so please update them all. If you have the latest version of these drivers, then uninstall them and install a freshly downloaded copy.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Is there any particular reason why Secure Boot is turned off?

These devices have problems in Device Manager:

DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device DTSOFTBUS&REV1\DTCDROM&REV1\1&1A590E2C&0&00 This device is disabled.

Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3004\ALASKA_DAY_2006 This device is disabled.

Lenovo EasyCamera USB\VID_13D3&PID_5171&MI_00\7&117A7F5E&1&0000 39

The first one is related to Daemon Tools or Alcohol % software. Please enable it, then follow the instructions in the next paragraph to remove it.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

The Atheros Bluetooth device is disabled. Bluetooth drivers have had issues w/8.1 - please enable the device, then update it's drivers to the latest 8.1 version. Feel free to disable it again (after updating it) if you'd like.

The Lenovo EasyCamera drivers cannot load. Please:
- download a fresh copy of the Lenovo EasyCamera software/drivers
- uninstall the current version of the Lenovo EasyCamera software/drivers
- install the freshly downloaded software/drivers
- monitor for further problems.

Many, many STOP 0x113 BSOD's in the WER section of MSINFO32. They all blame dxgkrnl.sys - a Windows driver related to your video. I would suggest updating your video drivers to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version(s) The Intel drivers are most likely to be involved in this, but it's possible that the AMD drivers are involved also - so please update them all. If you have the latest version of these drivers, then uninstall them and install a freshly downloaded copy.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Btw I've no idea why secure boot is turned off. I might have enabled "no GUI boot" not sure if that affects it.

Don't worry about Secure Boot for now.
If you ever get around to reinstalling Windows - you can enable it then.
I asked only to find out if you were having problems with it.

Hello,

Ive had this problem but been using my computer without installing the AMD drivers as that was the only resolution for now and I had to use it for work.

I am just curious if this issue was solved.

Just frustrated for paying extra for a performance GPU and not being able to use it.

I'm uncertain of exactly what you're asking for, but maybe this will help.....

On my laptop (a Samsung NP780) I have Intel and AMD graphics chips.
I updated the Intel chip from the Intel website and the AMD chip from the AMD website
And now my AMD graphics chip doesn't work.

Research showed me that the AMD graphics driver needs to be signed by Intel in order for the chips (and switching software) to work well together.
The only place to get this is the Samsung website (using their drivers for the Intel, AMD, and the switching software).
I haven't put the fix into place on my system - but everything that I've read says that it's the solution to this problem.
