This isn't just a couple of spikes, it's awful all across the board! My initial suspicions is that your hard drive is having some serious issues, but I know antivirus can especially play a role in this. I'll try to look further into it. If you want, do another capture, but this time with the following line: Code: xperf -on Diag+PROFILE+DRIVERS -stackwalk Profile -BufferSize 1024 -MinBuffers 256 -MaxBuffers 256 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular In the meantime, I noticed you have both Symantec and MSE enabled. Having two A/Vs on at the same time is just asking for trouble, and I have no doubt they're probably the ones fighting over file I/O. Get rid of one of them.

With W7 and earlier, Windows Defender is an antispyware program, and is included with MSE. But with Windows 8, MSE has been renamed to Windows Defender and thus is much more than just an antispyware program. Clear as mud, right?

It's amusing- 4 college aged kids [I guess they're not kids anymore ], rooming together in a 750 sq ft house. I got claustrophobic after about 5 minutes inside, but they feel like Kings! Oh to be young again and care free. Heh! Ok, as always thanks for taking the time to write. As for the double AV, that wasn't intended, scratching my head on that. I uninstalled Symantec (I thought) last week while in safe mode, using CCleaner- then installed MSE. I didn't realize Symantech was still on until you just told me. I went ahead and uninstalled MSE. Regardless, the lagging phenomena I'm experiencing has been going on for about 3 months, give or take. I'll continue with the xperf directions tomorrow morning. Thanks again! Phoo

I'll look into the log further, but I still think something should be done about Symantec for now.
