[SOLVED] KB3035583 Reappeared After Being Hidden

A few months ago I ran into complications relating to windows Update trying (and failing) to upgrade to Windows 10. I didn't want to upgrade to 10 at the time and eventually uninstalled and hid update KB3035583 and, under the guidance of a Sysnative Admin, made a slight change to the WU registry to prevent it installing again.

Recently, KB3035583 suddenly reappeared in Windows Update listed as "Important" and began downloading itself. I hid it again, but have read that even if you hide it, Windows Update will download a slightly different version of the patch. I noticed I also have KB2952664 installed, which others have said should be uninstalled if you don't want to upgrade to 10. Is it really necessary to uninstall every Windows 10 related patch - including the "Telemetry" ones - to prevent a future upgrade, or is it okay to continue patching the remaining updates as long as KB3035583 isn't present?

Thanks in advance.

Hi SiliconChipmunk :)

KBs (updates) that are hidden will re-appear (un-hide) automatically if Microsoft re-issues with, which means, release the update again with modifications. Since the KB3035583 is modified pretty much every month, it ends up always reappearing when you check for Windows Updates on Patch Tuesday. Also to answer your question, it's okay to only uninstall the KB3035583 if you don't want to upgrade to Windows 10. You can uninstall the KB2952664 if you want, there's no harm in doing so.

Thanks Aura,

One other thing I wanted to ask about is that Windows Update has just upgraded KB3083710 from Optional to Important. I haven't been able to find much about this patch - should I install it or is it okay to hide it?

Thanks.

This is a pretty new update from what I can see.

I suspect that it's another update that allows you to upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update. Not needed if you ask me since you can upgrade using the Media Creation Tool.

Thanks Aura,

If it's only necessary to uninstall KB3035583 to avoid upgrading to 10, does that mean I should still install newer versions of patches like KB295664, or is it okay to hide these as well?

Thanks.

It's really up to you. There's no harm in either installing it, or keep it hidden and not install it :)

No problem Chipmunk, you're welcome :)
