I provide technical assistance remotely to this computer.
In early April I was advised that 9 updates were getting installed and on restart
the following message displayed:
We couldn't complete the updates - undoing changes - Don't turn off computer

I checked various sites for update issues and kb3000850 (one of the 9) became the prime suspect.
The machine was running Avast free av and IE 11. Conflicts with avast had been reported.
I removed Avast and started Windows Defender.
Ran SFC /scannow errors were reported
Ran DISM ..... restore-health
Restarted computer and reran scan, no integrety violations.
Hid update 3000850 and installed other 8 without issues.
Allowed computer to run several days observing daily updates for Defender applying ok.
Got brave and tried 850 but only to get the same undoing of changes message.
verified that pre-requisite kb2919355 was installed.
Hid kb3000850 again and that's where it stands.
No other symtoms of any kind are evident.

downloaded and ran SFCFix.exe and zipped CBS put in Onedrive

will attach and await your direction.

reading through other related threads while I wait for my turn in the help q.

one thread mentioned that process was at 8% when failure occurred.
Go The Power asked him if it was during the Download or the Install.

fwiw; in this case, it's also at 8% but during the restart, then the
"We couldn't complete the updates - undoing changes - Don't turn off computer" is displayed.

in my post #2, it's the second link that's good for CBS folder

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. I've fixed this a couple times and highly suspect it's the same thing. Please do the following.

Create the following two directories. Copy and paste the folder names so it's exact.

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20

Copy wiaek002.inf from C:\Windows\Inf and paste into the 1st folder you created above.
Copy prnekcl2.inf from C:\Windows\Inf and paste into the 2nd folder you created above.

Now try the update. Let me know. Thanks.

thanks for the response Brian.
I've scheduled a remote session for 9AM tomorrow to apply your fix.
For my own education, can you elaborate on what the fix does, thanks.

There's a very long explanation here. But basically it appears that the update looks for folders/files related to a Kodak Printer and if they are not there it bombs out. I don't know why they are not there or even why the update expects them to be there. I suspect it's an issue with the update but I don't know. By putting the folders and files that the update is looking for, the update installs. I hope you have success, Let me know please.

Thanks for the detailed info. We're on the right track though. I see the following in your log.

Code:
2015-05-12 09:44:50, Info CBS Doqe: Recording result: 0x80070002, for Inf: wiaek002.inf
2015-05-12 09:43:56, Info CBS DriverUpdateInstallUpdates failed [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

It doesn't appear that the script has run properly. Can you try again? You want to ensure that you drag the SFCScript.txt that you downloaded to your desktop and drop it over the SFCFix.exe. Would you mind trying again?

ok, moved the icons and seems to have worked

It appears that you may have copied the file into a sub folder? I see the file in the following location.
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b\Inf

However the wiaek002.inf file should have been copied into
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b

Can you correct? Also check the other file if you could.

Then try the install again. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.

yes I messed up the first folder.
it's amazing how things go when you get it right.

I reran the update and it went to 100%, no issues.

I checked the installed updates and 3000850, 3003057 and 3014442 all installed.

I will let things settle as I'm on the road for two days, on my return if all is still well
I'll mark the thread as solved and visit the Donation booth.

Thank you very much Brian
