Hey y'all!

First, thanks for the forum. This seems like a great place and I appreciate y'all's efforts here.

I did a system restore back to factory and have been doing windows updates. Everything has been fine until now, when KB 2901983 will not install no matter what it seems I try to do.

I already followed the instructions and ran SFC/Scannow and SFCFix.View attachment SFCFix.txt CBS is also attachedView attachment CBS.zip

Scannow found 1 corrupt file and SFCFix repaired it. I checked this by running Scan Now again. However, this did not solve the Windows Update problem.

I'm running Windows 7 with the Windows 10 upgrade waiting in the wings.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Teddy Ruxpin :)

Do you intend to upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as you can, or not?

You can attempt to upgrade right now then. An upgrade to Windows 10 will upgrade your .NET Framework so there's no need to spend time on trying to install it under Windows 7 :)

That's what I figured. However, after forcing the Windows 10 download, that too failed to install, so I wasn't sure if there was a deeper problem.

I had previously successfully forced the Windows 10 download on another computer, so I was at least somewhat familiar with the process and didn't see anything much different. I suppose I can try again, thanks.

What error code and/or message are you getting when trying to install Windows 10? I can try to assist you with that :)

Well, the delay in my response was that I got much further into the Windows 10 install than the previous attempts, and I actually got to the installation process and thought I may be home free. However, I ended up with an error anyways. Just my luck.

Do you have multiple hard drives or SSD in your computer? If so, how many of each?

Alright follow the instructions below please.

Can you delete that D: partition (assuming it's empty), and then expand the C: partition using the unallocated space you'll have created?

Delete Partition.PNG

After deleting D: I got this warning if I want to delete the "Free Space" partition.

Right Clicking on C: does not give me the option to "Extend Volume" but I couldn't get a snip of that as the menu disappears if I click anywhere.

I vaguely recall these partitions being set up when I first got the computer 4 years ago.

Yes you can do it. And you need to delete the D: partition before the Extend Volume option on the C: drive becomes available.

Awesome :) Can you try to install Windows 10 again? Also, are you installing it via Windows Update?

Yes, I'm using Windows Update to install Windows 10.

I'll give it another shot now, so will probably be a delay here. Thanks for the help so far. I'll report back.

Same error occurred. I'll describe it as best I can.

I hit all the the prompts as they come up and accept to start the install. The computer goes into its restart/shutdown mode and the updates start coming in.

It hits 100%, and then I get the black and grey Loading Files bar temporarily. Then, the screen turns black with the all blue windows logo in the middle of the screen. It then just sits there for awhile until the computer shuts down/turns off without notice.

Turn computer back on and I'm welcomed by Windows 7 operating normally with Windows Update giving me the same Error Code. This is exactly the way the error occurred previously.

Thanks,

Alright, let's try to install it via the Media Creation Tool. Download the right version for your Windows, and pick the first option which is Upgrade Now. Let me know if it goes through that way.

Different route, same result it appears. But may have some more info. All the prompts went through no issue, computer restarted to finish install, then black screen with blue windows logo that stayed up for a few minutes. Then instant shut off.

Windows 10 Setup Screen gave this tidbit after I started back up:
0xC1900101 - 0x20017
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation.
