Hi Everyone,

I am an Electronic Technician and spend my time repairing electronic equipment, designing and constructing circuits and fixing computers.

I tried Windows 10 in 2016 and hated it so much that I went back to Windows 7 on my Fujitsu Siemens Notebook. As support is ending for Windows 7 in January 2020, I have recently downloaded live images of all the most popular Linux distros (Mint,Debian, Robolinux, Manjaro, MXLinux, Zorin etc) and tried them on my Zotac ZboxSD-ID12 mini computer which has a dual boot of Windows 7 64 bit and Linux Mint Mate 64 bit installed on the HDD.

My other interests are current affairs and music. The music I like ranges from classical (Handel and others) to Jimi Hendrix, Rihanna, Gospel music etc. I used to play the guitar, drums and keyboard but no longer have time.

That's me and I am so glad to be a part of the community.

Regards,

Hi T_Tech and welcome to Sysnative. It is great to have another electronics tech on board. My roots go way back when I was in the USAF maintaining air traffic control (ATC) radio communications and navaids systems. I eventually moved into computer hardware when PCs first started to appear. Yeah, I'm old. ;)

Hi Digerati,

Thank you so much. Those were the good old days when electronics was fun, the DY802 EHT rectifiers, PL504 tv horizontal output, EL34 audio output etc, then came germanium transistors: ground was positive. I still have a working AC188, AC187 audio amplifier made by Philips for turntables, yes positive ground!

Mass production and planned obsolescence have resulted in massive amounts of electronic waste due to the short lifespan of modern devices and the marketing tactics of manufacturers that convince us to upgrade to the latest model, in Microsoft's case forcing Windows 10 down our throats complete with the packaging despite the fact that older hardware may not run it.

I'm sure that we both feel much younger now after our trip on the time machine :)

Regards,

T_Tech.

Thank you so much.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been taking care of my ancient Toshiba Equium 5500FF desktop computer (Pentium III 600 MHz Windows XP SP3) that I salvaged from a Fuji Frontier printing machine scanner unit. I only use it to run my Light Wave TV Capture Card and the HDD failed after a power event.
