Well, I do not seem to have made a very good start.

Yesterday I found this site and breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank God, I thought, I may not have to reset my laptop to factory defaults and spend days re-installing all my devices and software.
Yes - I know I should have saved the serial numbers / keys somewhere safe, come to think of it I can't even find some of the CDs.

Anyhow I clicked on Post New Thread and started a new THREAD (my new word from yesterday, well new meaning).
I called it SFC problems on laptop with a replacement disk drive but have just realised that it's in Forum > Welcome Center > Introductions - New Members. That may not be the best place to be asking for help?

Could anyone that reads this please suggest the right Forum?

Hello and welcome to Sysnative!

I've moved your thread to the Windows Update forum. That is where we analyse those kind of issues.

Please note we have a limited number of staff members helping with those issues so please be patient when waiting for a response.

Hi Masterchiefxx17 and jcgriff2

To anyone else reading this post my original problem has been moved here by Teckno Venus.
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...c-problems-laptop-replacement-disk-drive.html

The original question was posted 05-14-2015, 11:51 AM and I'm getting a bit concerned that it has been overlooked?
I would really appreciate if anyone could help, otherwise it looks like I will be forced to return the laptop to factory defaults.
And I really do not want to do that if I can possibly avoid it.
It will take me weeks to get back all the app (GOTD) and tweaks I have made.
Not to mention the ones whose CD I can't find or keys I've lost.

If anyone needs any more details, log files or anything else please just let me know.
I'm happy to wait for however long is required if I know that there is some help at the end of the tunnel.
I appreciate that you are all volunteers and you have loads of other people asking for help.

In the mean time, is there anything I could read online to try and help myself?
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Tony
