Hi!! I've been having issues with this computer for about a year now. so it mainly started when I went about 2 weeks without updating the computer. what ended up happening was that the computer would not update at all. on top of that the camera would not work at all. When I went to the troubleshooting guide, what it ended up doing is deleting the audio drivers for basically no reason and it still did not resolve the issue. so now I do not have any audio on the computer. I tried many different things, resetting, trying to get help for my computer from the manufacturers, as well as trying to redownload the drivers, nothing worked. At this point all I really want is the audio. But when I try to redownload the audio drivers it says that the configuration registry database is corrupt and will not work. I've looked up what do and did all of the command prompt inputs to fix the registry, it still didn't work. I also have no recovery points to go back to, so now this is basically my last hope to get the audio drivers. If I could have some help, that would be amazing. To give the computer info I have an Acer Aspire 5 with windows 11.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Please follow the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions and provide the requested files in your next post as well as a copy of the DRIVERS hive.

Upload your DRIVERS Hive
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config and locate the DRIVERS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named DRIVERS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

You have uploaded the drivers folder instead of the DRIVERS hive file from the folder C:\Windows\System32\Config\..

Yes, the DRIVERS file from "C:\Windows\System32\Config\" without an extension..

1. Please open Windows Explorer and navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\Config\
2. Copy the DRIVERS file to your desktop.
3. ZIP this file and attach it to your next post.

Please do the following:

Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Afterwards reboot the system and attempt to update. If it fails attach the latest CBS logs and the following logfile.

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file setupapi.dev.zip in your next reply.

Have you rebooted the system and attempted to update after replacing the DRIVERS hive file?

No, I mean if you have rebooted the computer after replacing the DRIVERS hive before attempting to update?

  • Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt and press enter.
    Code:
    reg load HKLM\DRIVERS C:\Windows\System32\Config\DRIVERS
  • Take a screenshot of this CMD window and attach it to your next reply.

Please run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
