Hi Team and Members, I love the atmosphere and expert skillset this forum presents and in all honesty, I would love the opportunity to join the academy in the future. I love sysadmin and have done it most of my life and I love the break fix. not the break reinstall nature of the world thesedays.

Welcome to Sysnative, always good to meet new members.

Of course fixing things is not always the quickest solution to a problem, but it's definitely the most interesting, and certainly the most challenging sometimes. :-)

Same mind set as me! Love fixing and solving the puzzles! The academy is really educating! Even after these guys here are geniuses. Love the learning experience here. Welcome to sysnative!

Welcome to Sysnative, TechSense89!

not the break reinstall nature of the world thesedays.

Not sure "these days" really applies to that philosophy. "Format and re-install" as been the often misguided advice given since DOS days and before. :(

For sure, when it comes to mission critical systems where any downtime is unacceptable, getting the system back on-line and into production ASAP is essential. But most users do not have, nor are they responsible for mission critical systems, regardless how important they believe their gaming rig is. :rolleyes:

The problem (problems) with that action has always been the same. Among other issues, (1) it often doesn't fix the problem - especially if hardware related. (2) All personal data, installed programs, and user customizations are lost. (3) In the "unlikely" :( event the user actually had backups, the corrupted or infected file was frequently in the backup so they often simply reinstalled the problem back onto the computer.

And (4), and perhaps most importantly, if the reinstall actually fixed the problem, nothing is learned in order to prevent recurrence.

That said, I admit "these days" with Windows inherent backup features, it is more likely a viable backup (at least of the user's important files) is available. But regardless, such a recovery/restore will not fix a hardware problem - or inform the user what was wrong in the first place in order to take the necessary precautions to keep from doing it again.

Thankyou all for the warm welcome!

@Gary R - I love your display pic. Loved that cartoon when I was younger probably still do :D

@Corday - Thankyou sir!

@xrobwx71 - Thankyou very much :)

@Corrine - Thankyou :)

@plodr - Thanks!

@Sunfish - I love the friendly skull cross bones display pic sir! Also mindset, I love it :)

@Digerati - Yeah your right, Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed reply! Your so right, I recall the day of installing XP overtop of XP and it just worked. or copying regfiles or reg backups to fix things. Or even fixing the old temp user profile by renaming the .bak in registry lol and hoping that the root cause does not return or at least instruct the user to backup properly! RE Mission Critical your 100% right. the gaming PC at home or neighbours brothers PC with all their childrens holiday photos on would not be an issue if everyone knew backup and things a bit more. But yes windows and nowdays enforced "Online" Microsoft Accounts atleast OneDrive is a it just works soloution until they run out of space.

Look forward to getting to know you all more :)
