Hi,
can someone help me please. ? Like so many other people I have a problem downloading windows update.

I have asked Microsoft for help and they wanted to do a refresh. (Easy way out ?) I have a problem with that as I can't remember if I made a recovery flash drive with windows 8 or 8.1 which I am running now. If I try a refresh or restore to factory settings and it looks for my flash drive will it accept 8.1 instead of 8 ? or will it cause damage ?

I am not the most literate pc person in the world so unfortunately I need everything explained. I should say as well that "Murphys Law" was written especially with me in mind.

I have tried several things and none seem to work. I have tried sfc /scannow....and chkdsk c: /f /r

This was recommended to me, I ran it, but no good results. http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php?topic=1954.new#new

I then tried this KB2919355 issues being investigated/tracked
This one is the nearest I have come to getting the updates to work. I only completed part one, the rest was WAY above my head.
I had the troublesome file, KB2919355, saved. After I ran the above, I started the file from where I had it saved...and it installed !!! That was good until I had to reboot and got that message again "Failure configering windows etc"
I then tried it from "Windows Update" it said failure and I got the error 8024A000, I tried the microsoft error page and it said that code is non-existant. I sometimes get the error code 80073712.

Sorry, I have problems uploading the CBS zip, is there a problem with it or me just being me ?

Thank you in advance for your help.
Tom.
