Just did a clean installation on my PC and there are no applications running at startup other than what comes with windows 10 and it takes 2 minutes to boot to windows!

I get a black screen with a mouse cursor before the log-in screen that lasts for a very long time.

I called Microsoft and they said its a known issue but they didn't offer any resolutions and just told me to do a clean boot which is useless since it is a clean installation. Then they told me to do a clean installation after I already told these idiots that I already did a clean installation.

I have a similar issue. During boot up I see the Windows 10 splash screen and then my screen goes black for quite a while before I see the login screen. I posted a question similar to your on the Microsoft Community Forum and they also told me that it's a known issue that has no current solution. I posted a similar question on Tom's Hardware Forum and several other forums out there and someone on Tom's Forum suggested that this is a print driver issue and that I should install an updated driver from AMD. My problem is that my card is over 5 years old and AMD hasn't supported my card with updated drivers in 3 years. My decision is to buy a new card that supports DirectX 12 anyway and I'm just waiting on the dust to clear with Windows 10 before I make my move as my black screen delay is tolerable for now. Not to say that this is or isn't your problem but if your delay is tolerable also I would just sit tight and see what evolves.

Print driver issue? What type of driver do you mean? And how do I know if I need this driver?

Opps! My bad. I meant graphics card driver not print driver. I have an older graphics card and the driver for the card is outdated and it was suggested that I needed a new graphics card driver not a print driver. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh ok. Well I have the latest Intel driver and GeForce drivers for my card so I don't think that is the problem.

As they said it is a known problem, the only thing we can do is wait for them to come out with a fix. I have this same problem on my notebook but it does eventually come out of it and work fine.

I just did a clean install of windows 10 and BEFORE I installed any updates, it booted fast. The black screen was only there before the log in for seconds. AFTER installing updates, it now boots slow again and the black screen lasts longer....

What a load of crap... I don't even have any applications installed.:banghead:

Alternatively you can configure the updates to notify you instead of auto installing by running gpedit.msc and navigating to:

computer config > administrative templates > windows components > Windows update

And the object "configure automatic updates" to your preference

The gpedit.msc setting is only for win 10 pro or above not home users so if you don't have pro or above try downloading to tool to hide updates!

Bah. I configured the updates to notify me to download and notify me to install but when I clicked check for updates, the updates started downloading by automatically and then they installed automatically!

Found out you need to check for updates at least once after configuring updates. After that your configurations will be applied to future updates. So the setting does work properly.
