[SOLVED] Error 80073712 80072EFD 8007371B unable to download windows update

Hi Everyone,

First excuse my bad english (not fluent)

machine and system :
ASUS notebook model X72J version K72JT
W7 Home Premium SP1 2009 64bits

I have 27 updates impossible to download, the older one is from 01 2014

Error Codes :
80073712
80072EFD
800731B

When I buy the computer W7 was pre installed and I made no installation DVD.
Since I made a repair system DVD and 5 DVD " W7 installation W7 home premium SP1 AI recovery"

I have a bunch of problems but I suppose it's better to begin by windows update problems.

I ran a memory check OK
I ran a check disk OK
I ran 3 sfc /scannow : normal, safe mode and via repair system dvd


I also downloaded, installed and ran a SURT KB947821, it reports 38 corruptions.
it's seem all clear with PINTLGB.IMD : the last sfc report said there is no more problem

Others problems :
I desinstalled IE and I can't reinstall it
I cannot run skype, I desinstalled it
With chrome I can't access a lot of web pages : it tells me "proxy error" and I can't access "change the proxy settings"
With Firefox all fine, except when I don't charge a web page for a couple of minutes after it takes time to access one
I can't access to services in admin tools, it runs but nothing happens
The computer shut down frequently after high speed fan and just Firefox running (yes with a lot of tabs open) shut down also sometimes when viewing a video on the web.

Hello Brian,

I got 25 important updates that would not download and nine optional updates. The system managed to download some but after the restart I got a blue screen. I tried to reinstall restore points by pressing F8 or using the system repair disc. four different points of restoration, including the older one of the end of disinfection but I always had blue screens. Arrghh:(

I got an old disk image 2 years old, I have reinstalled it, I update the main programs Avast Chrome Firefox. They run fine, but still take time to acces web page after not using them for a will.

I ran malwarebytes and AdwCleaner, they find and throw away some bad pieces.

Now I can not update Java the updater is running without working, and the system looks for windows updates indefinitely without finding.

I guess I must repeat the entire procedure : SecurityCheck, FRST and RGSA.

I only wanted you to check for updates and let me know how many there were...not to install them. Unfortunately we will likely as you mentioned have to start all over.

Step#1 - SFC Scan


  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

About the windows updates, the system automatically install them when I stop the computer. So do I have to adjust the updates installation on manual ? By the way, the system begins to find some updates and downloads them.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

During the day, Windows Update has found nearly 150 updates.

The installer of SURT ran for more than three hours.

Finally, I press Yes for the installation but Windows did not install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821). see the capture below. I have no CheckSUR.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\

Windows update propose to install 29 important updates, and there are over 100 pending wich are listed.

First I let Windows install all of the updates, and it worked fine.
I ran a clean boot and SURT

Everything is fine with the windows update. I have even got the windows 10 logo in the taskbar for the first time.

About the delayed access to the we pages, it's even worst, but for now I will investigate by myself.
