Hi everyone,
like
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/16077-error-800703f1-when-trying-upgrade-windows-10-windows-8-1-a-new-post.html
my Upgrade to Windows 10 exits with the 800703 Error, I found threads in the Microsoft Community with similar issues, but no real solutions that helped so far
they said it could happen, because I have Avast installed, so I uninstalled it
I also used sfc /scannow but there were no files with issues, that needed to be fixed
and I also used a fixit to reset windows update (I think that's what it did), it was supposed to reset windows update to make updates show up, that might not have been installed without windows update realising it -> no new updates showed up and the upgrade to win10 still fails
none of the three above helped

an in-place upgrade would be the last thing I want to try

I hope you are able to help me get this solved without it, I'm greatful in advance for any help!:thumbsup2:

I'm using a Toshiba Laptop: Satellite A660 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
I'm using their win version and did a "clean install" from the recovery partition a few months ago (so I got everything of their bloatware, somehow my Bios didn't want to boot to the Win7 install dvd, so I used the recovery)

anyways my cbs log: File-Upload.net - CBS.zip

as far as I know I don't have dism (win8), so I cannot provide that log obviously

in the meantime I have installed Avast again, because I didn't want to surf around without an Antivirus Programm

just one thing:
the error occurs pretty much when the progress bar is around 50% while it says "installing" (so shortly after download of the upgrade)

I guess my post got lost in the shuffle. (and I'm sorry for pushing)
And I can already see, I'm not the only one with the issue, but most people experiencing it are using win8 which is a different ball game, there is no dism (though I never saw anyone with this issue, that said doing those fixes solved it, there seems to be really no solutions for this :/)

the reason why I want to hold off on a reinstall is that I have Linux installed as well (dual boot)
though if it isn't possible in any other way then I would do it eventually

what leaves me wondering is, that normal updates get installed just fine (Patchday was on 11.8.15 I think, and I updated yesterday and it went just fine, one update failed but I was able to install it after a reboot, only win10 fails sadly)

wait I just found this:
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/16079-windows-10-error-800703f1.html#post122799

I'm using a toshiba notebook (2009, normal Bios), it has a recovery partition as well, which contains pretty much an installer for a factory reset, I used it once already
and I have Fedora installed on the same drive (and I use Grub2 as bootloader therefore)

my guess now is that the recovery partition causes the issues, because I read elsewhere, that the winows 10 upgrade doesn't touch the bootloader like the older ones
other just needed to updated grub once after the upgrade to get the correct name (win10 instead of an older name), though they could start it through that entry

so maybe I need to delete that partition and do a clean win7 install
first I will try the upgrade from an usb stick though

EDIT:
maybe these files will help, I took a quick peak at them and they looked rather interesting (small parts are german though, don't hesitate to ask, I can translate those, if that helps)

Welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay.

First thing I would try is to disconnect any peripheral devices from your machine (i.e. any USB devices or anything else that is not absolutely essential), do a Clean Boot and then try installing from a USB key like you were going to. Use the Media Creation Tool to create the install media on a USB drive and try that. Make certain you are in a Clean Boot state however.

Let me know how it goes.
