Hi all,
A couple days ago I started getting error messages when I tried to open programs, such as steam (failed to open) and WoW (which did work, after error spam). To combat this, I thought it would be a good idea to remove Steam and just re-install it. However, I quickly understood this couldn't be done as each time I tried to uninstall, an error popped up, namely Error 1719 Windows Installer is corrupted or cannot be found blah blah blah..
I also found that I could not download anything on FireFox (my chosen browser). I would get the pop-up to save file, click it but instead of starting a download, nothing happens. No errors , it just fails to do anything. This has me completely nonplussed, however I assume it has something to do with a faulty Windows Installer..(?)
I've tried many things to try rectify the Windows Installer problem.. I've gone through services, toggled manual / automatic, made sure the process had started. I've used command prompt to unregister and re-register the installer, to stop and start the process, even trying to locate dll files (which coincidentally could not be found). I've downloaded files off the internet (using IE8 which for some reason allows downloads) that I merged with registry information, I've used notepad to create a file which did the same thing (f*ck all!). I am at wits end, because usually I solve my computer related issues by trawling the internet and trying each method 1 by 1.. except this time absolutely nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas? I will be checking my emails regularly so if there is any extra information needed etc I'll try to respond asap.
Thanks!
TL;DR - Error 1719 won't let me install my Steam and I've tried loads of things to fix the error but none work. Help plox!
