Hello,

After a broken Windows Update deinstallation (Windows got blue screen) I was no longer able to boot into that Windows Server 2016 Standard.
In Windows PE I ran dism to fix the offline image with this command:

X:\windows\system32> DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth /scratchdir:C:\temp\scratch /source:wim:F:\sources\install.wim:2

Index 2 is Windows Server Standard (Desktop Experience).

Dism Log shows the following:

1689885724923.png

I'm desperated and do not know how to fix it....
I assume that I have the wrong source ISO but the installed os is W2K16 Standard (Desktop Experience) 10.0.14393 and the source file is an ISO with exactly that version....

Do you have any ideas?
My boss "kills" me when I cant get this to work within the next 8 hours.

best regards,
tbj

I managed to mount the WIM Image to a local folder and run the dism command with the mounted image.
It runs through properly. I got the 100% message and in the dism log I can see that the got fixed.

Unfortunately this does not fix my blue screen problem when booting.

And next problem is that I cannot run sfc /scannow . It immediately brake up after the verifying process with the error message:
"windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

So then I ran chkdsk C: /R and retried the sfc /scannow
It doesnt work SO I started the trustedinstaller service and rerun the sfc /scannow command but it still fails.
Then I ran icacls to correct the permissions and rerung sfc /scnannow, it still fails.

So I checked the CBS.log and found the following:

So what can I do?

Hi,
I managed to get sfc to run successfully after using this command:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\windows

But it hasn't changed anything.
I'm still getting this annoying bluescreen:

Anyone any idea?
