Hello. I really hope you kind souls can help me. Everything was working fine until very recently, and now I can't even listen to locally stored music without drop-outs. :banghead:

I tried to get a trace, but my cmd keeps saying that xperf is not a recognized command, despite the install telling me it's already installed correctly. (I store my programs on a separate drive from my OS if that matters, although this has never caused a problem before.) If anyone has any ideas on how I can get the trace working, I will try your suggestions and report back.

As an alternative, I am attaching my LatencyMon screenshot. The top seems to be USBPORT when sorting by total execution, however the thing that seems to have a larger effect is ndis, which spikes really high on highest execution time (sometimes it has been much larger than what you see here, like 4x larger or more even).

System details:
Win7 64-bit, fully updated
i7 with 16GB or ram
Freshly installed video drivers for my AMD 5870
Freshly installed drivers for my N wifi card.

Some additional info:
the problem persists whether there is wifi traffic or not. Disabling wifi adapter solves the problem completely (but I need wifi!). On this same report msmpeng got 52 hard page faults, but I'm not sure if that is a problem or not.

PLEASE oh PLEASE say this can be fixed without a fresh install!!! I am at my wits end, totally out of ideas, and willing to try anything except the nuclear option, as I am currently saying at relatives. But it is a desktop, not a laptop, btw.

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS

The commands in tutorial weren't working for me, but I was able to get it installed and working using the help menu. I'm not sure if I did the trace right. I couldn't start the .etl from the command line, and when I opened it, it looked nothing like the tutorial. I did find DPC duration by CPU. I also found an ordered list of the events that seem to be causing the spikes.

I hope this information is helpful. If I can do anything else, please let me know. I REALLY need your help.

Thanks.
