Hi,

In noticed that others in this forum have had similiar issues with this problem, but each had a tailored solution, so here is my issue. I've had problems with CHKDSK and ran SFC and SFCFIX. The following is the log from SFCFIX:

Where do I go from here?

Thanks, Mike

That's because the problems are only "similar" and not exactly the same. Even if the symptoms appear to be exactly the same, it is highly unlikely the two computers have identical hardware in identical configurations with an identical security setup and identical installed programs. Hence the "tailored" solution and you are wise to seek advice instead of trying to apply one of those solutions.

That is not my area of expertise but I am sure one of our qualified and experienced experts will be along soon to help you.

And welcome to Sysnative!

Hi,

If this is the only error it should be a easily fix...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Yes, I get this message which was the impetus for SFC to begin with. I haven't solved this error message, yet. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks again for your help. I'm now able to perform CHKDSK on start up again.

Mikal

Hi Mikal,

I need more details about when you got that error.

Just to be clear SFC /scannow no longer reports corrupted files?

Lets run SURT also...

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
    If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Ok looks good.

What exactly happens when you do chkdsk /x /f c:?

Can you provide more details about the error on post #6, like what actions you did that result on the error?

47096

This is what happens when I run chkdsk with the parameters you requested. I'll post results of chkdsk after restart in separate post.

As for my post #6, I have a comic book database program that tries to compact the database. When I try to intitiate the compaction, I get the DAO error message. I've checked my computer and did not have a DAO folder till this morning. I've copied a DAO.dll from my previous hard drive for this computer to the DAO folder and registered it successfully. I have a feeling that I should have copied the DAO folder and all it's contents, so I'm doing that now. No worries on that error. It only happens on that specific program and there are ways to compact the database from the same program.

Ok let me know the result.

About the program, did you try a reinstall or a Repair if that option is available on the Programs and Features inside the Control Panel?

Result from CHKDSK /x /f c: is attached.

On the other program, I actually had the program's developer working for about 2 hours on fixing the problem by directly accessing my computer. That is how we found the errors that you fixed. I'll check back with him next week to see if the fixes to my computer will help him diagnose the database compaction issue.

Ok, chkdsk worked on the boot.

Do you suspect of Hard Disk Problems? Is this a normal HDD or SSD?

If its an HDD you may want to check the disk health.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

This is a SSD. It is only a year old. I think some of the missing & corrupt files/folders came in the migration from my previous SSD.

Thanks for the information. SSD's should be tested using the tool provided by the manufactured if available.
