Configuration registry database corrupt

Hi everyone

i've just booted up my pc after a year or so with it stashed away
however, when i parked it, it was working flawlessly, but now it won't allow me to install nvidea graphics drivers.
It will not let me do anything due to the error "Configuration geristry database corrupt"

I've been searching on these forums and found a few people who has gotten it fixed by some kind souls,
i really hope someone is able to help me
