Hi all,

I've been trying to install 2 updates for what seems like an eternity, and keep getting the error code: 800B0100. I have followed the steps listed after clicking 'Get help with this error' and run the SURT, which says it has completed, but still unable to install the updates. I have also tried to install the updates directly by downloading from Microsoft, which also did not work.

The updates in questions are: KB2977292 & KB2544893

As requested, here's a copy of my SFCFix.txt:

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.

I have tried to upload my zipped CBS folder, but it doesn't seem to be letting me as the zipped file is 90mb. I assume that's just simply too large for the forum? Instead, I have zipped CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.persist.log. View attachment CheckSUR.zip

If you need the rest of the CBS folder, just let me know... but the CBS.log file (uncompressed) is around 430mb? That sounds much too large to me, but I don't know for certain and will leave that one up to you guys. :). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Hi nogoodnames :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you. First, we'll replace the files reported as corrupted by SURT. Follow the instructions below please.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Fix
Follow the instructions below to fix the errors reported by the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT);
  • Download the attached archive file, Packs.zip and save it on your Desktop;
  • Once it's downloaded, right-click on it and select Extract All...;
  • Check the Show extracted files when complete checkbox, and click on Extract;
  • On completion, a folder will open with two folders inside it, Manifests and Packages;
    • Copy and paste the files of the Manifests folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests
    • Copy and paste the files of the Packages folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\servicing\Packages
  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again;
  • On completion, attach the log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply;
Packs.zip

Ah Quebecois/e! Salut Aura!

Thank you very much for the assistance. I have done everything you suggested and have attached a copy of the log. I have NOT tried to update again as I wasn't sure if there were other steps you were going to suggest firstly.

Let me know what you'd like me to do next, and thank you again!

It seems like the replacement worked :) Now can you try to install the updates again and see if they succeed?

Hi Aura,

I'm not sure if it's related, but after running Windows Update there was a few more updates to choose from. I've tried to install all of them, and all have worked except the original 2 I am having trouble with (KB2544893 & KB2977292).

I've attached the CheckSUR.log again for you to see... but not sure it's changed? Should I try and run the SURT again? View attachment CheckSUR.log

Also, my CBS.log is now over 1gb uncompressed... is this right?

Thanks again!

You'll need to run SURT again to get a fresh CheckSUR.log. We'll also get a fresh CBS.log. Follow the instructions below please.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

While I check your CBS.log, follow the instructions below please.

Software Distribution rename

  • Click Start -> Type in CMD in the search -> Right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator
  • Entre in the following commands:
    net stop wuauserv
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
    net start wuauserv

Alright, now you can try to reinstall the updates :)

Ok, tried to install the updates again, and they failed again. I did get a different error code though: 8024200D...

Hi Aura,

I tried installing manually before and they both failed. However, after your fixes, they have both installed successfully! Thank you very much!

Final question now is what do I do about the CBS.log which is now nearly 2gb?

That's good to know :) And that CBS.log will eventually become "archived" in a .cab file, then a new one will be created so I wouldn't worry about it. Once it does, you are free to delete all the older .cab files and leave only the CBS.log.

No problem, you're welcome :)
