Hello,
I'm currently dual-booting Windows 11 with Ubuntu 24.10. Today I had to login into Windows 11, and was prompted with a bunch of urgent security updates. Tried to do so and got a bunch of errors. I tried running sfc /scannow but it could not complete due to corruption errors. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth failed as well due to corrupt registry. I can't find any option to attach files. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: Just had to register an account, files are now attached

Update: After running the ComponentsScanner tool, I managed to successfully run both sfc /scannow and the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command. Rebooted, windows update ran for a while, then tried to update again, same error. So i reran everything and am reattaching the new files (since some of the errors were fixed).

Hello everyone, it's now been a few weeks and I still can't update my Windows. Maybe this got buried under all the other posts? I was hoping I wouldn't have to clean reinstall.
Thank you

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload the SCHEMA.DAT file
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\SMI\Store\Machine and copy the SCHEMA.DAT file to your desktop.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named SCHEMA.ZIP on your desktop.
  • Attach this ZIP-file to your next reply.

Hi,

Replace the SCHEMA.DAT file
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  • Download the attached Schema.zip file and save it to your desktop, right-click on it and select Extract all.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\SMI\Store\Machine and rename the SCHEMA.DAT file to SCHEMA.old
  • Copy the SCHEMA.DAT file on your desktop into the above directory.

Afterwards reboot the system and attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.
