Can't update windows 7 to 10, SYSPREP error, Windows Features Blank..please help..

Try the upgrade again and report the result.

Good Morning Peter... Update failed at the same spot, "48% Working on Updates" with the same error code. I attached every log I can think of to hopefully pin down what's causing it to fail. Thank you again for your help!

If you use the device "Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver", check for updates.
If you don't use it, uninstall and remove it.

Hi Peter, Hope your well. I tried to do an update for this driver and my pc says it's up to date but I doubt it as it's dated 5/16/2011. I'm sure that is wrong. I went on to the acer(gateway) site thinking they would have drivers but they didn't. I'm not sure what would be a safe site to go to so that I am not downloading a potential problem/virus into my pc. The identification for the mother board is "PTGCPP2004208036506300 DX4860 63531280-5EC5-11E1-859F-E840F25821E8" It looks like ""Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver" is the main controller for me to be able to go on the internet w/ my pc. So, If we removed it then wouldn't the Ethernet stop working? I'm also not sure what would be the correct version of the driver so that windows 10 will update. Thank you again for your help to help solve this...

Maybe this machine is too old to run Windows 10.
Disable the "Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver" only and try the upgrade again. If it fails again you can simply re-enable it.

Hi... I will try that. The Pc can definatly run windows 10. I made sure to check(also other pc's w/ this hardware have all been updated on forums) and the hardware is well above all the required specs. If I disable the driver how is windows 10 going to be able to pull the updates that it needs if there will be no internet? Is there a way to do a windows 7 default driver for the ethernet controller? Also, what may/would happen if we try installing windows 10 without installing updates? would that open up a large can of worms once installed when it tries to do updates on it's own? There are many windows 7 upgraded driver for the realtek controller, I will include the screen shot. I am not sure if they are safe from the website as I am getting a security alert when I go to it and definatly don't want to install a potential security issue. Perhaps you can advise me if these drivers check out from a security standpoint as your probably an expert on the security side of things. Thank you

You screenshot shows a newer driver version for Windows 7 (the third one from the top). Try to install that one first.

If I disable the driver how is windows 10 going to be able to pull the updates that it needs if there will be no internet?
The first step is get Windows 10 installed and running. It seems there is an upgrade problem with the Windows 7 drivers. If Windows 10 is up and running we can enable the network driver and hopefully install the correct driver for it, either it will download it by itself or we need to download it with another machine manually.

Also, what may/would happen if we try installing windows 10 without installing updates?
That is not good. As I said, the first thing is to get Windows 10 up and running, than get the network and all Windows Updates installed.

I am not sure if they are safe from the website as I am getting a security alert when I go to it and definatly don't want to install a potential security issue.
If you download from the RealTek website should be no problem. Downloading any executable file (in this case the installer for the driver) can popup the alert.
Provide a screenshot of the warning alert.

Hi Peter.. I will follow all the steps you suggested. I felt it would be very prudent to do a system image backup in case anything goes south to make sure I can restore my windows 7 OS and all data. When I tried to do so I was told I have a corrupted file & it then did not want to repair it. I attached the screenshots. Not sure how this can happen as we just "cleaned" up the C drive. I am backing it up to a new 2Tb Samsung external portable SSD drive(model T7 shield).

Also, just to clarify on installing windows 10 w/out updates as I was perhaps not clear, The install programs asks you if you want to install win 10 with or without updates. I have seen if all else fails others report that to install w/out updates however that is why I asked if that would create a nightmare then getting windows 10 up to date after the fact? Just wanted to clarify as I am going to try to install the new driver. (security message is now not coming up for the Realtek website as they updated there security certificate today)

Run the CHKDSK command again and report the result.

I was able to successfully update the realtek driver.. What would be next step to try again with full install & have it check for windows 10 updates like previous attempts? Thanks

Hi Peter.... The ethernet driver fixed that one issue but then the wifi card caused another. I took it out completely and it finally installed! I'm now running Windows 10 finally! There is at least one problem thou as windows update is not working/giving me an unable to connect message. I would very much appreciate if we can check that windows 10 installed correctly. Not sure what could possibly be the problem with update on a brand new install? I ran the usual things to provide logs which I have attached. Please advise as to what you need me to run, logs, etc. I guess were almost there with getting this all figured out.. Thank you again!

Ok, so the upgrade problem was caused by the old network driver.

It seems the Windows 10 version is old (version 21H2) but lets get the network card working again. Hopefully Windows will update itself then.
Can you download the Windows 10 driver for the network with another machine and move it to this machine using an USB stick ?
The screenshot in message #87 shows there are drivers for Windows 10 available.

I just want to make sure I understand, download a win 10 driver to a USb stick and upgrade it again? I do have full internet access on the Pc we are working on as the network card seems to be working just fine, also Avast is now fully working as well with updating. When windows 10 finished installing it went to a blue screen and said it was pulling/doing updates before it started up, not sure if that has anything to do with updates now thou? Also if were installing another driver would that be the version 10.74 with or without power saving as there are two listed? I'll wait to hear back from you before I do anything. big thanks!

I misunderstood. From the screenshot in message #94 I thought you didn't have internet access at all on this machine.
Restart the machine ones again.
If Windows Update fails again run the network troubleshooter and report the result.

Hi..Win update is doing the same thing. I ran the troubleshooter and it came back that there are no issues. I also just noticed that I'm getting the same issue as the Windows update when I click on the news feed button that it can't connect to the Ms servers. Attached are screenshots.. thanks !
