Hi. Fixlog attached... One thing I also noticed(aside from Avast not updating & snipping tool stopped working at the same time) is that I used to be able to do a search from the start menu search bar such as search for "Example*.jpg" or bob*, etc and it would do the search. If I do that now from there it won't do anything, just says no items match your search which is incorrect. I wonder if that is also a part of this larger problem stopping the windows 10 upgrade? Thank you

Good Morning Peter... I just spent a few hours on this.... I tried both methods in step 2 to install Windows 10 and both failed at the same 48% spot where the install froze. It was the same exact error as prior for both methods you asked me try, "error during Sysprep_Specialize". I then tried to re-install Avast but the online installer would not communicate w/ there severs just like the program has not been able to upgrade it's definitions for the past few months on my Pc. I then had to download the offline 750mb file & install it manually which finaly worked & the Pc is protected again. I tried to download/run Microsoft setupdiag to try and get the logs from it but it opens up the command prompt and does something very quickly then closes the window, I am not sure what /if anything it did? I also tried to run Chkdsk (just in case) and it has some sort of error msg(pic attached). I attached some logs again in case they may be helpful. As always a very Big thank you, my head is spinning at this point..

I added the zipfile as attachment in my previous post.

No need for apologies, it was not your fault. I changed in my previous post the downloadlink into an attachment.

The following might take several hours to complete. You can do it overnight if you like.

Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories.
Right-click on Command-prompt and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.
Code:
chkdsk c: /f /r
At the question "Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)", press Y.
Restart the system.

Do not press any key during the restart. This will allow CHKDSK to start.
Wait for this to complete. Please note that this may take several hours. Let it run even if it looks like the process has stopped!
On completion, the system will restart automatically.

Hi Peter, Chkdsk complete.. I attached the info file from event viewer. Also, I noticed a bunch of errors in event viewer(35+) after I rebooted the system, all of them seem to revolve around the same thing, not sure what it means? All the errors reference a missing file location. The errors all look something like this in the event viewer, "Windows Application, SystemIndex Catalog Details: The system cannot find the file specified. (HRESULT : 0x80070002) (0x80070002)" or "Details: The system cannot find the file specified. (HRESULT : 0x80070002) (0x80070002)". I am not sure if this is important at all but thought I would just mention it. Waiting your next instructions, as always Thank You!

I already noticed the SystemIndex Catalog errors. We may need to fix that later.

The previous CHKDSK command fixed some items.
Restart the machine and then perform following scan again.

ChkDsk Scan
  • Click on Start - All programs - Accessories.
  • Rightclick on Command-prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, typ chkdsk into it, then press enter.
  • Wait for this to complete.
  • Rightclick
    58a60a47ed1bd-ListChkdskResult.PNG
ListChkdskResult.exe and select Run as administrator. Notepad will open the file ListChkdskResult.txt on completion. (The file ListChkdskResult.txt can be found on your desktop.)
  • Copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Try the upgrade again and report the result.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download
    myjIXnC.png
SFCFix and move the executable to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Attach that file to your next reply.
