Hello,

While trying to remove some malware I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 but now I am unable to reinstall. I have tried numerous internet articles, some of which said to uninstall IE 10 and 9 and go straight from 8 to 11 but now I cannot reinstall 9, 10 or 11. I have managed to resolve the malware issue.

Windows Update gives error 9C59 and the offline install gives error 0x80073715

I have tried the SFC /scannow, FIXIT tools, deleting the windows update distribution folder, updating packages but there are no 9, 10 or 11 version packages in the servicing/packages directory, SFCFix, and the update readiness tool - CHECKSUR shows no problems.

CBSLOG shows ERROR_SXS_MANIFEST_IDENTITY_SAME_BUT_CONTENTS_DIFFERENT

Can you help?

Hi and welcome to Sysnative.

Internet Explorer issues tend to be one of the hardest to resolve. Do you happen to have your Windows 7 DVD handy?

OK, so we have a few options then and I'll do whatever you prefer.
1. Find and borrow a Windows 7 32bit With SP1 DVD from a friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc. We will then perform a repair install which will allow you to keep all of your data/programs intact.
2. Uninstall SP1 from your computer. Use your existing DVD to do a repair install, re-install SP1.
3. Attempt the upgrade of your machine to Windows 10 which is free.
4. We'll attempt to surgically fix your machine but it could take a little while so you'll need to be patient.

Let me know and we'll begin.

OK so not 1 because no-one I know has the disc and not 3.

I have attempted 2 but did not get very far... I have uninstalled SP1 and booted to the install disc, selected the repair option but it could not see the Windows installation because it wanted the raid drivers however when I put the drivers in the drive and select "Load Driver" it only shows an X "Boot" drive, and a C "Removable" drive which just says "insert a disk" so I was unable to see/load the raid drivers... however I neither could see a repair option that was going to help with my issue? The only repair option was to fix "start up issues" or recover to a previously created restore image which I don't have.

I have currently reinstalled SP1 and tried the IE upgrade again but it still fails...

So maybe we should try option 4 ?

I do have another windows 7 SP1 computer here with IE 11 installed so is it possible that I can just copy over some "packages" from that computer?

Many thanks.

We should explorer Option#2 still. I don't believe you were attempting the repair install properly. I wanted to know which option you wanted to do and I would have provided instructions. I'm actually happy it didn't work for you as the way you were doing it would have wiped out your system.

Following are instructions on how to do the repair install. So uninstall SP1, do the repair install and then re-install SP1.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

After almost 2 days of uninstalling and installing its worked! I did have to install some updates in a particular order and reinstall a couple of programs but all working now.

Thanks for you help. This thread can now be closed.
