So yesterday my pc froze during a game, so I reboot and it only gets past the "Starting Windows" animation, and then nothing, just a black screen, dead keyboard.

I tried Startup repair, restore points, sfc /scannow, windows dvd, nothing worked, except getting into safe mode.

However in startup repair I got 'baddriver' in the details, giving me a hint maybe I should take out my video driver (for Radeon HD 7850).

So while in safe mode, I uninstalled the video driver. Then I was able to get to the login screen in normal windows.

I tried updating driver with current version freshly downloaded, but same problem, so I did the previous version and a couple versions prior.
I also used DDU (display driver uninstaller) to clear each installation out better than the standard uninstallers hopefully. But every one gives me the same problem of the black screen and nothing with dead keyboard after starting windows animation.

So it goes beyond the driver uninstallation/replace apparently regardless of version, yet every other part of windows seems to work fine and nothing in SFC, CHKDSK shows any problems. I can get on youtube and watch videos no problem, just no games because of no driver able to work anymore?

I'm assuming since you mentioned safe mode, you ran DDU in safe mode?

Do you have another video card to test or another PC to test that video card?

Hi!

It could be you have a bad driver (in general) or a failing graphics card or the PCI-express x16 slot.

Download and install iobit driver booster free.
Open it, click tools, click "Clean unplugged device data", scan, clean, close.
Download regseeker, unzip it, click regseeker.exe.
Click applications and startup.
Click services, click the information header to sort the items, enlarge the headers so we can see the items, take a (png/jpg) screenshot.
Click drivers, click the information header to sort the items, enlarge the headers so we can see the items, take a (png/jpg) screenshot.
Post the screenshots.

It seems SURT repaired 124 errors.
Re-try adrenalin 20.12.1 installation.

If that shouldn't work: from an elevated command prompt, launch:
Code:
sc delete pnkbstra
sc delete ntiolib_1_0_C
sc config iastorv start= disabled

If you don't use wireshark, usbpcap and npcap (tcpdump), wincdemu, we can remove other three drivers:
Code:
sc config bazisvirtualcdbus start= disabled
sc config npcap start= disabled
sc config usbpcap start= disabled
sc delete bazisvirtualcdbus
sc delete npcap
sc delete usbpcap

Then, reboot and re-try adrenalin 20.12.1 installation.

If it still doesn't work, try to set bios default/optimized settings (removing any possible overclocking and xmp profiles... Set 1866MHz if the RAM supports it. Or set it to 1333).

If you are using msi MoBo 990FXA-GD65, try the second pcie_x16 slot.

(Typing from phone) Ok after I did all these commands and rebooted, my mouse and keyboard refuse to function on login screen for both normal and safe mode!

If your mobo is MSI 990FXA-GD65--> MSI Global -- Otherwise let us know what mobo you are using.

Run also windows update: logs show only 10 ms kb packages installed.

ok i've done some of this but this is taking way too long i feel like i'd be better off just putting windows on an empty drive.
some background on ocz drive, i used to have windows on it till i ran into issues a lot, it seems to work fine as a storage drive otherwise.

Ok just finished installing chipset and usb drivers for the GD80, of which i already had installed previously but apparently some things got tampered

I like to manually do windows updates for what's necessary directly and seeing as everything was fine until the last couple days what will windows update for 7 fix, didn't ms turn it off?
