I've had this issue with my computer that I've been seeking help (https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...5030-sudden-system-slowdown-2.html#post213908). The problem went to Defcon 1 when I wanted to run System Restore in Safe Mode this morning. After hitting F8 and enter the options screen, my mouse would not function. My keyboard would not function as well. Both are USB wireless. The only option I had was to manually shut down the computer. I changed ports for both, but that did not work. After the 2nd manual shutdown/restart, the F8 function no longer works and I'm taken to a screen with two options: Startup repair or normal startup. I can do neither because of the mouse and keyboard. I have a PS/2 port that I could use if I had a PS/2 mouse and am trying to secure one. Outside of that is there anything I can do? I am truly stuck.

First thought: Windows 7 repair from a CD.
How to Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc [Easy]

If you did not create one, ask a friend running Windows 7 with the same version as you to create one.

You used to be able to download a repair ISO for Windows 7 but I suspect MS made sure all the links no longer work.

Your system was suffering a slowdown and now appears to not want to boot. Have you considered that the hard drive could be going?

I was just now able to get it started. Thankfully my board has a PS/2 interface. Have an old wired USB mouse and USB to PS/2 adapter that I coupled and plugged into the PS/2 port. I hadn't considered the SSD going bad, but am considering a Win10 upgrade.

Scratch what I said. The symptoms of a mechanical drive going bad are different from an ssd. A mechanical drive will slow down; an ssd just stops.
The fact that the computer booted up tells us the ssd is okay.

Personally, I would not tackle an upgrade to Windows 10 until you determine what is wrong with your computer. You would be adding possible problems to the yet unsolved problem of why your computer has suddenly slowed down.
