Hi Sysnative,

I'm seeking advice on what I'm supposed to do with my built in microphone. So to speak every time I use it to record myself using camera or sound recorder. It doesn't record any sounds at all but instead I only hear a very low volume static noise after I play the recorded file.

I tried reinstalling the audio driver but doesn't seem to fix the issue. Also maxing out the volume of the input device on the settings but still to no avail it doesn't fix the issue.

On top of that not only the built in mic not picking up any sound. Also any external Mic that I used doesn't pick anything also.

Here are some information on my device for reference:

Microphone Realtek(R)Audio: Driver Version - 10.0.22621.1
Realtek Audio Console: Audio Driver Version - 6.0.9697.1
OS: Windows 11 23H2 build (22631.5189)

Thank you for your support.

Hi,

Let's see if I can help with this issue.

1. Open the Device Manager using the command devmgmt.msc.
2. Scroll down to System Devices and check if something like the following device: 'Intel Smart Sound Technology' (SST) is listed.
3. If so take a screenshot of the Device Manager window and attach it to your next reply.

Hi,

So I tried checking that device name on the list and I'm not sure which one is the right one as there are 3 Intel Smart Sound Technology.

Also I forgot to mention I've updated my windows to 24h2 from 23h2. I just realized that the built in microphone picks up specific sound like scratching the tiny hole where the mic is located and when every time I blow wind on it.

But the built-in mic still doesn't pick or record any voice audio.

I tried disabling the smart sound devices one by one and re-enabling it again. Unfortunately it still the same. I've also tried following the link provided but little to no luck I didn't manage to find a solution there.

Okay!

1. Right-click the speaker icon on the Windows taskbar and select Sound settings.
2. Open the Input section and take a screenshot of input microphones available.

Here's the weird part I tried speaking on the built in mic and it states 0% after the test. But tried it again for a second time what I did was I blow up wind near the mic and it managed to record that stating 30%. I tried playing the audio of the 30% it only manages to record the wind audio that I was blowing on the mic directly but It's kinda static.

I also did the instructions on the link you provided. But no results.

Please try to change to audio format from (2 Channels 16 bit 48000 hz DVD quality) to (2 Channels 24 bit 48000 hz Studio Quality) if available.

There's only 2 channels as stated unfortunately. Couldn't find the Studio version.

I've also the tried applying the CD version and tested a record but still same result no voice recorded.

  • Download Speccy x64 portable 1.32.740 (click)
  • Unzip spsetup132.zip it and put it on your desktop.
  • Right click Speccy64.exe and select the option run as Adminisrator.
  • When the program opens, it will retrieve some information regarding your system.
  • Once it's done, select the File menu and choose Publish snapshot. Answer Yes to the confirmation message.
  • On the next screen that comes up, choose the Copy to Clipboard button and paste this link in your next reply.

These are the current audio devices:

- Intel Smart Sound Technology for Bluetooth Audio
- Realtek High Definition Audio
- NVIDIA High Definition Audio
- Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB Audio

It seems 'Intel Smart Sound Technology for Bluetooth Audio' is the default audio device, what you could try is to remove the Intel / Realtek / NVIDIA drivers and use the Microsoft generic audio driver to see what happens.

Please run the following tool first, this will also list the latest event issues etc..

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Here's the files that had been generated.

Also I'm not sure if what I did was right. But I disabled all of the 4 audio drivers then restarted the device afterwards as it requested it. Tried doing recording a video but the result still the same it has no audio.

When you mention removing is it the same as disabling the driver? or is it uninstalling the driver?

Cause every time I uninstall the audio driver in device manager it just comes back after.

I mean uninstalling the 'Realtek Audio Driver' from the software list, then reboot the system and check the 'mic', in case it does not work install the drivers provided by Colorful.
