bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

I've been having some abnormal blue screen errors, most usually the ones outlined in the topic. I recently replaced my ram(4 months ago), but there were a few very rare blue screens even before I replaced it. Never really bothered to try and solve it much outside of updating drivers and the like. Usually pretty competent with trouble shooting, but fixing these blue screens has evaded me.

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

Recommendations:
Most of your crashes were network related. I suspect your out of date network drivers for your wireless device.

netr28x.sys Wed Feb 25 20:02:09 2009 (49A60631)
Ralink RT2860 series Wireless LAN Card (you may have a different manufacturer)
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=netr28x.sys

While you are updating that, I also recommend you update/replace/remove the following drivers:

ZCinema_SRS_amd64.sys Wed Aug 15 13:28:11 2007 (46C353CB)
Logitech Z Cinema with TruSurround HD Driver
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=ZCinema_SRS_amd64.sys

LGPBTDD.sys Wed Jul 1 12:47:52 2009 (4A4BAF58)
Logitech GamePanel Software
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LGPBTDD.sys

To remove drivers, do so by uninstalling the device or software associated with the driver. Devices can be uninstalled through device manager, and then the device itself should be physically removed from the system if possible.

3rd Party Drivers:
The following is for information purposes only. My recommendations were given above. The drivers that follow belong to software or devices that were not developed by Microsoft. Any drivers in red should be updated/replaced/removed. You can find links to the driver information and where to update the drivers in the section after the code box:

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

Network related? That's rather, strange, as I don't actually have a wireless card installed at the moment. I had one installed about a month ago for a day or two while I was moving into a new apartment, and then probably about a year before that.

Should I still update the drivers, even though the only network device I currently have on my computer is the onboard Ethernet ports?

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

It may be that your wireless network drivers are causing a conflict even though the device is removed. Check for the device in your network adapters list. You will probably need to enable hidden devices to do so:

Show Hidden Devices:
Open an elevated command prompt.

  1. Click Start Menu
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Accessories
  4. Right click Command Prompt
  5. Click Run as administrator
  6. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  7. Type into command prompt
    Code:
    set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
  8. Hit enter.
  9. Type
    Code:
    devmgmt.msc
  10. Click View (at the top)
  11. Check Show hidden devices
  12. Expand the Network adapters..
  13. Uninstall the wireless device(s).
  14. Restart your computer.

To fully uninstall a driver, use the following steps.
  1. Click Start Menu
  2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
  3. Click Manage
  4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
  5. Expand Network adapters
  6. Right click the wireless device
  7. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  8. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  9. Restart your computer.

Alternatively:
  1. Login as an adminstrative user.
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Hardware and Sound
  5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
  6. Expand Network adapters
  7. Right click the wireless device
  8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  10. Restart your computer.

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

Thank you! It was indeed there, and I have uninstalled it, as well as the other drivers you had reccomended to be uninstalled. Since I only get a BSOD once or twice a day, I won't know if the issue is actually fixed until it either happens, or doesn't happen. But I still be sure to report back if anything happens (or hopefully doesn't!).

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

You're welcome. Best wishes that stops the blue screens.

I look forward to hearing back from you after you've determined one way or the other.

Sad news, still got a few BSODs over the last two days. Attached the report. Thought it might be ram, don't have any discs on me so I can't run memtest at the moment, going to pick some up tomorrow, but I did run windows memory diagnostic. Got no errors after 3 passes. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my main SSD(Intel 510) that runs windows shows up as an SCSI in device manager instead of an ATA device like my other two drives. Maybe I need to reformat all my drives and reinstall windows?

I was able to fix the harddrive showing up as SCSI by putting it on a SATA II port isntead of a SATA III one. Something must be wrong with my SATA III controller or something. No idea if this fixed the blue screens though, I'd imagine it won't.

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

It's possible the controller drivers for SATA III were not installed properly. Let us know whether that resolves the problem.

Info

SSDs are fairly new technology, and they are prone to causing conflicts with systems if all related drivers are not up to date. We've also seen conflicts arise when multiple controller drivers are used or if an incompatible controller driver is used. Sometimes switching controllers and/or their drivers can provide more stability.

I think I've pretty much solved my issue. The problem was with the marvel controller that's both provided on EVGA's website, as well as auto installed by microsoft plug and play. When in AHCI mode, which I run in to get more performance out of my SSDs, the marvel drivers do very strange things with anything plugged into the SATA III ports, thinking they're SCSI devices. As an SCSI device, the SSDs cannot communicate with the intel tool box, and don't preform up to their bench marks. And apparently, they also crash frequently. To solve this, I installed "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" The generic controller provided by microsoft.

All my issues seem to have been resolved since then. Thanks for the help!

Re: bsod: "page fault in nonpaged area" and "driver IRQL not less or equal"

You're welcome! That was what I was going to suggest next was trying different controller drivers/software. Looks like you beat me to that troubleshooting step.

Excellent work solving your issue! Thanks for posting back. :D
