A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 ( 0x001904FB, 0x83A9DA40, 0x83A9D620, 0x818CA521 )

*** Ntfs.sys - Address 818CA521 base at 818BE000, DateStamp 4a5bbf45

That's the BSOD error message in the computer.

The desktop is Lenovo IdeaCentre K320

Configuration Number : 57121380

Running On Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit before upgrading to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

Did not do clean install so I can still have my old files.

Running for 2 Days and now stuck at BSOD! I can access the BIOS and change any settings that I want.

Already tried reinstalling the OS of Windows 7 and 8 Pro but still getting the same BSOD.

I can go to Advance Tools Setup and Start at Safe Mode but when doing that all is ok then when windows is starting up BSOD again. Restarting computer... Windows starting up and then BSOD... same cycle for the past days.

And for the final resort I sent back my computer in Fry's and they said they cannot fix it.
Lenovo warranty is outdated so I cannot replace it.
Windows 8 Pro Product Key is been used by this broken computer so I cannot use it in another computer
waste of money for the OS and waste of money on my desktop if I cannot fix it.

Here I am begging for help and maybe you can help me fix my problems regarding this issue!
Decided to post this issue to you guys! Hope you can help me with this.
Thanks in advance

Hi -

Bugcheck 0x24 + ntfs.sys = likely HDD failure.

Run SeaTools for DOS, LONG test -

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutorials/4072-hard-drive-hdd-diagnostics.html

Just curious -- why did Fry's say they could not fix it? Were they unable to diagnose or is it that they do not repair systems themselves?

Regards. . .

Maybe I think they just want you to buy new computer at their store...

Can I use bootable USB instead?

I don't see an option for USB -- only floppy & CD -

SeaTools for DOS tutorial

I was curious about Fry's as I purchased systems from them when I was in Huntington Beach, CA. Luckily, no problems so far.

Ok after I Burn this to a disc I will just boot it in my computer right? assuming that it all went well and okay, it's good news but how about if it's not okay? then do you think what is the problem? the HD alone or some hardware problem too? MOBO or RAM's?

Yes - boot from the SeaTools CD. You may need to change BIOS boot order so DVD drive boots 1st.

It's too early to speculate beyond HDD at this time.

Did you ever run chkdsk /f /r?

How can I run chkdsk /f if I cannot pass startup in windows? T_T, I'm doing the Seatools Long Test now, will update you what will happen.

Apologies. . .I should have added "get", i.e., did you ever get to run chkdsk.

Re: Fry's - you sent the system back to them & they returned it back to you without explanation? Did they attempt to fix it? Diagnose?

Did you have any problems with the system prior to Windows 8 upgrade?

How long ago was Windows 8 upgrade?

I left the desktop in the office and let the Seatools for DOS do the work, i will update you tom morning what happened in the result.

Frys's try to fix it and diagnose it but they just said it's a hardware problem and i should just replace it with a new one.

Nope when the computer is running on windows 7 HP 64 bit it is all good, no problem at all. but now i think the windows 8 ruined everything and maybe corrupted my HDD or maybe some other components in my computer too.

windows 8 upgrade was just last friday.

Hi -

An OS upgrade to Windows 8 would not result in hardware destruction. I myself encountered dozens of BSODs when installing Windows 8 onto this Vista SP1-era laptop system running Windows 7. I finally got Windows 8 stable, but need a HDD caddy for HDD #2, so I'm back running W7 x64 ATM.

If SeaTools passes, wipe the entire HDD with Killdisk - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutorials/449-format-hdd-low-level-format-killdisk.html

Then use your Windows 7 ISO, whether DVD or USB & load Windows 7.

NOTE: You will lose all data/files on the HDD.

Thanks for answer re: Fry's -- I thought maybe they found some hardware failure and implied the system was not worth repairing.

Ahaha, windows 8 is unstable OS I guess, XP and 7 is much great in terms of reliabilty and other stuff. ^_^

How do you mean Seatools passes? when the tool said there is no bad sector or something i could procceed to Killdisk?

Well I don't care about the HDD anymore I just want to use the desktop to lessen my worries of getting a new one :smile9: and then reinstall windows 7 and stick with if FOREVER! bwahaha

About Frys's I don't know about what their thinking but we will see if we can fix this via tom then. Goodnight and update to you tom morning

Windows 8 is very stable. In fact, Windows 8 has a lot in common with both Windows 7 & Vista as they share the basic NT6 build.

Vista = 6.0.6000, 6.0.6001, 6.0.6002 (last 4 digits = Service Packs)
Windows 7 = 6.1.7600, 6.1.7601 (" ")
Windows 8 = 6.2.9200

XP & Windows 2000 shared NT5 build -
Windows 2000 = 5.0
Windows XP = 5.1, 5.2 (x64 - 2005)

The issues most are having with Windows 8, like previous Windows OS' -- finding compatible device drivers. My HP laptop is nearly 5 years old. I'm fortunate that Intel, Realtek and NVIDIA wrote Windows 8 drivers for it.

Yes - if SeaTools says HDD passed with no errors, run KillDisk; install Windows 7.

"FOREVER" may be a shorter time period than you think!

Update:

Seatools for DOS said the HDD is GOOD! ^_^ yehey

Now Doing KillDisk, going to wait for 5 hours EST... OMG! :banghead:

But it's ok, Hoping after this I can do clean install with windows 7 HP 64 bit later ( finger crossed :D )

Then do you think I should upgrade again to windows 8 PRO? or think about it first? Updating drivers first and stuff, I'm afraid I'm going to run to the same scenario if I will upgrade again. T_T nooooooooooooo, much better to stick with Win 7 HP then is not a bad idea

Hi -

Truly great news about the SeaTools results. chkdsk may have come up to clean up security descriptors.

The desktop is Lenovo IdeaCentre K320

Configuration Number : 57121380

Running On Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit before upgrading to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit
Us this your system? --> Drivers and software - IdeaCentre K320 Desktop

I only see drivers for Windows 7, Vista & XP; however, if you were to look at HP's page for my system, you would not find Windows 8 listed either. Windows Updates was smart enough to locate some compatible drivers; others I found on my own.

I went though basically the same scenario that you did several times - install Windows 8; KillDisk; reinstall Windows 8, etc... and ultimately was successful.

The worst case scenario here - You try again; things don't work out; you nuke the HDD again and end up with Windows 7. There is no way that you will damage the hardware in doing so.

If you are game & want to try for Windows 8 again, I and others are here to help.

After Windows 7 installation. upon reaching desktop, run the jcgriff2 BSOD file collection app so that we have complete information on your system configuration -

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...g-instructions-windows-8-7-windows-vista.html

Then run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant - Upgrade to Windows 8 - Microsoft Windows

We can then review the output to see if there are any devices flagged as definite non-Windows 8 contenders.

It is of course your call.

12:42 Minutes to GO! woohoo ^_^
After this I will do clean install of windows 7 and update the needed drivers.

Oh! by the way before installing windows 8 PRO do I need windows 8 standard edition first? or it's ok to jump from W7 HP 64 bit to W8 Pro 64 bit?

Now I'm thinking about it maybe that's the cause of the problem or maybe not.
I Upgraded to W8 Pro directly without the standard edition or you can go directly upgrade to PRO or something?

Good News Guys! It's working again! woohoo, ^_^... I'm so happy!
Thank you so much Sir jcgriff2!!! Your my hero :D

For now I have temporarily clean installed windows 7 HP and going to update all my drivers and possibly upgrade to windows 8 Pro again, wish me luck though. hehehe

Going to do that later so I'm going to update you guys asap! Here in the office right now and secretly fixing the computer. LOL

 :thumbsup2:

Thank you so much again!

I am glad to hear W7 installed.

Thank you for the kind words.

Good luck to you.

Yup and I can use the desktop now ^_^ Thank you so so so much Sir!

Planning to buy Hp Pavilion 27xi Led Monitor for this desktop, now I can play my games again! woohoo

I will upgrade to windows 8 Pro tomorrow and then will post SF Diagnostic tools for you to review what I need to do with the OS. ^_^
