BSOD/freezes/AppCrashing, but only while I am playing games

Hi everyone,

I'm having this issue for quite awhile now, I googled a lot looking for similar issues but I've been unsuccessful so far. I will try to provide all the info I can and describe all the steps I already took.

I built my own PC approximately 4 years ago for the first time, and it works fine unless I play a game (and I only play 2 games, but honestly by now I don't think the games have anything to do with the issue).

Almost each and every time I play, I either experience (in order of frequency):

PC freezing, to the point that I have to manually reboot
BSOD but not always the same one and, checking WhoCrashed, mostly "ntoskrnl.exe" related
AppCrash (i.e. the game itself crashes)

This is my PC config:

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (upgraded from Windows 7 a couple of years ago).
BIOS: 12/04/15 20:19:28 Ver: 04.06.05 (type: BIOS)
Processor: AMD FX-8320E Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM DDR3 (dual channel)
Available OS Memory: 16338MB RAM
Page File: 3369MB used, 15906MB available
Motherboard: ASRock 970A-G/3.1
VideoCard name: 2048 MBATI AMD Radeon R7 360 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner)
HDD: 465GB Seagate ST3500413AS ATA Device (SATA)
931GB Western Digital WD Elements 1042 USB Device (USB (SATA)
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio
PSU: Thermaltake 530W modular

For the record, I don't have 3rd party antivirus.

And this what I already tried to find a solution:

sfc /scannow: no integrity violations
chkdsk: no errors
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Windows clean boot (which is still on)
Checked RAMs, with both Windows diagnostic tool and MemTest86 (the latter for a whole night), and both didn't show any error
Updated Windows (Windows updates are always enabled by the way)
Updated GPU drivers
Uninstalled GPU driver with DDU.exe and reinstalled. It was even worse, hence I uninstall it again with DDU.exe. Windows installed "the most recent available", i.e. Feburary 2020 update.
Checked both Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer. When the PC freezes, Reliability Monitor doesn't show anything helpful, while the Event Viewer shows the error ID 6008 "The previous system shutdown at __ on ‎__ was unexpected " 30/40 minutes before the freeze occurs, but at the same time of the error I am still actually playing.
I also tried Driver Verifier, but it didn't help identifying -if any- the driver causing the issue.
Finally, I've been also suggested to collect some further info using SysNative, but I tried it multiple times and, once the CMD windows close, it gets stuck in some sort of "Waiting for SystemInfo" loop. I can see the folder SysnativeFileCollectionApp in my docs and all the files SysNative generated. If I manually zip the folder and attach it here, would that be the same?

The only thing I have yet to try is a BIOS update, because it scares me and because I am using my PC for working remotely, hence I am afraid that if something bad happens I have no other way to work (my country is in lockdown due to COVID-19).

For the record, upon checking Windows Error Reporting, the most common ones (from 04/30/2020) are:

AppHangB1: 19 times
BSOD: 16 times
AppCrash: 10 times
Live Kernel Event: 4 times
MoAppCrash: 4 times
Radar_Pre_Leak: 4 times
MoAppHang: 2 times
AppHangTransient: 1 time
Bex64: 1 time
CLR20: 1 time

I also started to think that maybe could be my PSU or the graphic card? But just because I am running out of ideas.

Let's start by having you zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and then attach/upload it here.
If unable to zip it up there, then copy it to your Desktop and zip it up there.

I'd also like you to zip up and upload a copy of your MSINF032 report
To do this:
- Press Win and R keys (to open the run dialog) and type in "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and press Enter to open MSINFO32
- click on File, then on Save
Give it an easily remembered name (and note where it's saving to) and make sure it's saving it as an .NFO file
- then zip up the saved file and upload/attach the ZIP archive with your next post.

Just FYI -
- Event ID 41 errors (in Event Viewer) are simply Windows saying it doesn't know why it shut down
- ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel (core) of the OS. It's not likely to be the problem - if it was you've have many more problems than you are currently having. Most often this is caused by another (erd part) driver corrupting the memory space that ntoskrnl.exe is using.

Missed part of your post about the SYsnative collection app

The hang at SystemInfo happens often.
Most often it's due to a large number of errors in the final section of the MSINFO32 report - so let it run for a while
If it still doesn't work, then it's OK to zip up and upload the folder that's in your Documents. It should contain most of the reports and the minidumps.
So, go ahead and upload it so we can see what you've got (and if it's missing anything crucial).

I tried to run SysNative again, but it still gets stuck, hence this is the folder I manually zipped: SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip

Hi!

Please try the following:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.
