Hey Sysnative members,

I registed here with the hope that someone from the sysnative specialists could help/ shed some light on this FULL CRASH dump.....
NVIDIA has taken notice (#196) but I doubt that we will receive an proper reply due to the reason of the issue....

As this neither my system nor I am the one facing the issue, I nethertheless tried to gather some information (NVIDIA forum member 'madeinholt' here #4 ):

@Jared: see posts by madeinholt (is orginally facing the issue):

Here is the requested zip... SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip
Running down the list in BSOD Posting Instructions, I have hit a wall on 3. When trying to run perfmon in admin cmd I am getting 'The operator or administrator has refused the request' error.

Can you follow these instructions https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...ons-windows-10-8-1-8-7-and-windows-vista.html
I'd like to see what's in the other dump files.

For a full memory dump, there isn't much in it.
The context doesn't seem to have been saved so parts are visible.

re: BSOD due to nvlddmkm.sys when trying to install NVIDIA driver 344.11 -Windows 8.1 x64

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy.

Do you get BSODs when trying to install earlier versions?
Lets look at this new dump file.

Code:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:

We can see a compare instruction that tries to subtract the value, if the value is a certain figure then the jump will take place, otherwise it will just continue executing.
The address stored in rax was probably invalid, although I cannot see as the context hasn't been saved.

It doesn't look like a failng GPU but rather incompatiblities within the driver code itself, I'd recommend rolling back to an earlier version, or trying a new beta driver.

re: BSOD due to nvlddmkm.sys when trying to install NVIDIA driver 344.11 -Windows 8.1 x64

Hi Jared,

BSODissue posted my original problem here from the Nvidia Geforce forum - where we have hit a bit of a wall. Nvidia driver 337.88 English (US) is the last driver which will install without a hitch and it runs perfectly, so yes, rolling back the driver works. The problem first arose with 340.52 and also now with 344.11 so this has been going on for a few months now.

The BSOD occurs as 344.11 (or 340.52) are installing. A clean install from safemode will work but as soon as 8.1 reboots and restarts into normal mode a BSOD occurs.

I have loads more dump files saved from the numerous attempts at trouble shooting I have already performed, if they may be of use and you have the time I could post them!?

re: BSOD due to nvlddmkm.sys when trying to install NVIDIA driver 344.11 -Windows 8.1 x64

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy.

Do you get BSODs when trying to install earlier versions?
Lets look at this new dump file.

[...helpful information....]

@Jared:
Thanks for your support/help so far!!!!

re: BSOD due to nvlddmkm.sys when trying to install NVIDIA driver 344.11 -Windows 8.1 x64

@Jared:
"...The address stored in rax was probably invalid, although I cannot see as the context hasn't been saved...."

---> Is it possible that the NVIDIA driver tried to get/access some data from "BIOS"/"ACPI-table" (do not know the correct wording) like (smiliar) described in this blog post:

"...
This was not really helping me much, and I decided to repeat the tests but use the checked build of Windows 8 to help troubleshoot.
With the kernel debugger attached, I captured the following ASSERT during the boot:
Code:

ACPI!PnpBiosGetDeviceResourceList+0x15e:

This is interesting, the kernel ASSERT’s on a problem reported by the BIOS.
...."

re: BSOD due to nvlddmkm.sys when trying to install NVIDIA driver 344.11 -Windows 8.1 x64

Interesting, I've never used the checked build myself but I'd like to at some point.
I'd recommend updating the BIOS as it seems something has become corrupt.
That may well be the cause, can you check the callstack of functions being made with the Kernel debugger attached?
We should be able to see what's trying to access the ACPI information, it would be most likely the graphics card trying to change power policies.

--> any helpful hints/steps for a newbie how this can be checked?

Because here is exactly where my theoretically made assumption end....I have got no real (!) knowledge (just pseudo) about kernel debugging/using WinDbg ;-)
Additonally I am not sure if you have (easy) access to the debugger when the crash happens at boot/login time....

The recommendation with the BIOs update is nice...but it looks like the mainboard manufacturer has not yet come across this "issue" (still not sure if it is a mainboard/driver issue) and therefore no "fix" is available...

cheers

Could you tell me the background, why you thing that "the graphics card trying to change power policies"?

It wasn't the best wording, essentially ACPI is the Advannced Power and Configurating Interface, when the nvidia driver is calling acpi routines it makes me suspect it's trying to perform some operation it shouldn't.
This might include things like altering the power state incorrectly.

Without that dump file it's very hard to say.

Thanks in advance
